Re: Anchor winch connections & Victron BMV

It seems no-one has queried the windlass motor as the culprit. It sounds like worn/sticking brushes to me.

Re: Victron MPPT EMC issues

I have used close field probes with the SDR, cheap ones from China. I don't have a good way of calibrating the results but they are yet another 'tool' to help understand what is really happening on a...

Re: Victron MPPT EMC issues

Tks Karst. I may try a ferrite but access is tricky. Hopefully I can replace the lamps so stop the problem at the source.

I agree that squelch is not a good indicator/test. It was just a comment...

Re: Victron MPPT EMC issues

Oh yes, much more sophisticated and useful. It takes time to get used to but a neat gadget. Not so many years ago you have needed $50k or more for an instrument to do this.

Re: Victron MPPT EMC issues

Thanks for your comments and the the link, Karanga. I know of them but haven't looked at their range recently. It is a wide range these days! Yes, I guess 12V specific LED's are probably better...

Re: Victron MPPT EMC issues

This thread prompted me to do some testing today. I have a Victron SmartSolar 100/20 regulator circa 2109.

Over the past year I have been chasing radio interference on one part of our sailing...

Re: AIS to iPad: how to?

It looks like the Quark QK-A026 will do the job.

Re: Himunication HM390s VHF NMEA 0183

As already mentioned Brown & Black for the talker output with Brown to the +ve and Black the -ve.
I would expect the AIS and GPS data to be sent on the same 'talker' output, already mixed together...

Re: Importing chartplotter from USA to Australia

There should be no problem to "getting it to work properly" over here. Marine electronics is usually 12VDC, that's what most recreational boats run off and correctly chosen gear will network smoothly...

Re: AIS to iPad: how to?

The NMEA0183 data will come from the RS422 wires which are shown as being part of the power cable. See P25 of the User Manual. It is set for 38.4kb by default. Unfortunately the manual does not...

Re: Volvo Penta D1-30 29hp vibrating in neutral, normal?

Excuse me for doubting your description of what happened....but...from what I see in the first few seconds of the video it is running smoothly as if in idle/neutral. Then when the change occurs the...

Re: Whitsunday Islands don’t seem all that great

The word 'Islands' is the key. Coral is not a major feature in the island group. Enjoy the walks, the anchorages (mostly quiet) and the scenery. As others have said, go to the outer reefs for good...

Re: Finding drinking water in the Mediterranean

There are very few 'marinas' in Greece, you will mostly use town quays. Some will have an open tap or two and the 'town' or Port Authority will charge a modest amount for the use of the quay which...

Re: Tweed Heads, Australia bar

I'm not a local but that is the route I use when I go there. It can be a bit dis-concerting to approach from the Nth effectively beam-on but better than being out further in the lifting swell.

Re: Tweed Heads, Australia bar

In the CH7 TV interview the skipper said he lost the stb eng and couldn't steer to port because of ropes tangled in both.

Good work by him to stay in the centre lane as he got washed back to the...

Re: Digital Thermostat in Fridge

I am using one of these thermostats and it works well. You mention imersing the sensor in a liquid. My sensor is in a small plastic box 20x35mm which is not suitable for water but could manage some...

It all comes down to inconsistency about the way they are...

Re: Yanmar 3YM30 Sea Water Pump Pulley Diameter?

Here is a follow up to the belt/pulley size question.

I received the M18 belt I ordered and removed the installed M18.5 belt. I then taped them together, along with the spare M19 belt, as...

Re: Yanmar 3YM30 Sea Water Pump Pulley Diameter?

Tks ggrey, valid points. It's so hard to know/predict the useful life of these things. My previous boat had a Volvo D2-55 and almost 3000 hrs on the clock when I sold it 16yrs old. I replaced the...

Re: Yanmar 3YM30 Sea Water Pump Pulley Diameter?

Yes, I take your point about the pulley size change to explain the situation. When I get the M18 belt I will try to make the change. I have an M19 available too, but I will also look closely at the...
