Re: Sextant, what to buy?

Really today there is little if any need for a sextant at all. A good GPS is all that is required for most purposes. A Sextant with tables should you have the ability to use it may be a handy backup...

Re: Shallow keel for shallow water?

I agree with Bay Breeze. Our boat draws .8 metre with keel up and we love to be able to run up and rest on our keel (wound up of course) between tides.

Re: Windows: 7 or 10???

As a computer tech, my opinion is that Windows 10 is by far the best operating system to date but you should probably use a program such as driver booster available for free from download.com to...

Re: Looking for practical charging system refit advice

I've seen a lot of good advice here but also tackle this power issue by changing all lights possible to LED. We have done this and now the only things that consume power are the really necessary ones...

Re: Unattended Battery Smart Charger

When not using my boat I have all electrics turned off apart from the solar panels which keep the battery topped up. No need to use my battery charger. In fact we only connect our battery charger...

Re: Beam Reach Safe sailing Rough Weather

I would never consider going out in such conditions but on a couple of occasions have been caught out by change in weather. You soon learn which is the most comfortable direction to sail and what you...

re: Delta Copy Anchor Doesn't Work

To me it seems like you have a very light anchor for the size of boat. I am willing to bet that if you upgrade to a 30 0r 35 lb anchor you will not have a drag problem.

Re: How do you sleep?

Ours is a double berth (bow to stern oriented) in the back cabin and we have just as good a night sleep at anchor as we do at home if not better. Also able to convert the dinette into a double berth...

Re: Deck saloon for circumnavigation

I suggest a lot of sailing experience before embarking on buying your own boat for a circumnavigation. It is not a day sail and requires a lot of planning as well as a suitable boat. There is far...

Re: Fast Sailing Dinghy as Tender?

We currently use a walker bay 8 but a walker bay 10 may be more suitable for your requirements. We have added the inflatable skirt which turns it into a sailable rigid inflatable which we have found...

Re: What kind of boat to learn on?

Just have a look at what is available within your price range and find one that suits. You obviously know how to sail and all you have to do is learn where things are on the new boat.

Re: Ran engine w no oil- is it destroyed?

Even if it runs again, I would suggest that it would be prudent to pull the engine apart and check the condition of the motor and replace as a minimum rings and head gasket and anything else that...

Re: Dinghy For An Island Packet 31

Totally agree with Anglefish2. Get the tube and you have an RIB. This is what we have on our boat of a similar size to yours and it works well and you do not need a large outboard motor either.

I like you just use bowlines and have never had problems with my lazyjacks. I can see no reason for thimbles except appearance.

Re: Hard antifoul paints available in Oz?

You could try Ameron ABC 3 which is available in Brisbane from Seairland at Eagle Farm (Ph 07 32687511 )
I've been using it for 10 years and it works and lasts really well.
