when I first started chartering sailboats, everyone made a big deal of NEVER taking cardboard on board the boat for fear of cock roaches.
does this thinking still prevail? is it cardboard of...

Re: chain type

Thank you Jim and Jammer. my first instinct was to just add chain. Someone told me you can do that but I know you can buy joining links so. It is good to hear somneone echo the sentiment that...

Re: chain type

thank you all for the reply

yes, I will end up getting a propersized Rocna Vulcan and will just keep the chain. Realistically if I need 100meters of scope I can have rope for the last 30 meters. ...

Re: Oxley Bora vs new ISTEC parasailor?

Anyone want to give thoughts on Oxley Levante, vs Istec Parasailor, vs wingaker? vs just a symetrical spnakker for a 44 foot catamaran going across the Atlantic and then the pacific?

Re: Where to charter in the Caribbean

certainly the most popular place to go is the BVI. It is the number 1 destination for a reason and NO, two weeks there is not too long.
easy sailing, easy navigation and lots to see and do. down...

Re: $1500 to recertify a $2200 4 man, Offshore life raft

Given what you’ve said
I would have them keep it and buy a new one
AND NOT FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT

Re: $1500 to recertify a $2200 4 man, Offshore life raft

does a cruising sailboat need a "certified" life raft?
only fault I can see, I would not pay 175 for a new first aid kit. I cant imagine anything in that actually being bad.

Re: Does a genset still make sense?

I hope a generator is still needed. I am buying a new Cat and opted for the Generator and did NOT opt for Lithium batteries.
in all my previous chartering in the Caribbean, I use AC most evenings...

Re: flying with an electric outboard

I have no stories but I predict that would work. Its the litium battery that is the problem and you are solving that by carrying it on

Re: Best boat upgrading sequence…

If you can just go straight to the boat you ultimately want. the sooner you buy it , the sooner you'll sail it and the better you will know it. All of this is dependent on your financial...

Re: Sailing and Hiking, charter/cruising area recs?

the San Juans would be tailored made for this kind of experience but it would be DAY hiking and not overnight. As mentioned above, most people renting a charter boat wouldn't leave it anchored...

Re: Halyard connection to square top mainsail

I recently was on a Cat that had a 2:1 Halyard. I actually didnt like it since it requires alot of rope. Obviously it gives 2;1 but any other reason I need that on a 44 CAT?

Re: bottom paint

thank you for the reply. since the coating would be applied by the boat manufacture, I will assume they will do it well. I will likely opt for the more expensive copper coat
