Re: Transom hardware identify and positioning

The picture doesn't show "A" clear enough to make a good guess. The hardware on both stern corners should be identical. These look to be something the previous owner installed and they don't match....

Re: Upgrading, looking to compare makes/models

Hey Dave,

I had to chuckle when I read your post. I started with a MacGregor 26M with a 50HP o/b on the stern. Loved that boat . . . until we moved it to the Great Lakes (Lake Michigan). Less...

Re: Lake Michigan, any place to anchor for a night?

We sail Lake Michigan extensively (out of Milwaukee). The Wisconsin side has virtually nothing where you can "drop the hook" and spend the night between Chicago and Sturgeon Bay. Anchorages start at...

Re: Mooring Balls in the Great Lakes

Betsie "bay" Lake, Frankfort, MI has a "special anchorage area" listed on the navigation charts. My experience is in Milwaukee, WI where the the charts list the same type area north & south of the...

Re: Universal M25 cuts out after 6 minutes.

+1 on fuel system restriction/blockage. Start at either the engine and work back to the tank or in the tank & work towards the engine.

We had a similar experience and found a blockage at the...

Re: What is considered a normal degree of heeling?

Seems like you have a two-part question:
1) What is a "normal" degree of heel? and 2) Did I chicken out and shorten sail too soon?

1) Every boat has a sweet spot where the hull will allow the...

Re: What does "cruising" mean?

A question that will get you, at best, a subjective answer. Kinda like asking what a "blue water" boat is. I suspect you already think "cruising" means being away from your home port for several...

Re: AIS Range

My AIS receive is a function of my SH GX2150 vhf radio. Antenna is 40 feet up and I "see" class A transmitters 25-30 nm away.

Re: Tattoo / MacGreogor 26 Power Sail Boat

Hi Hanker,

We were very satisfied MacGregor 26M owners for many years. It was our transitional boat from power boats and addressed our concerns about being stuck out on a lake if the wind died.

Re: Is there a "Best" time of the Year to Cross?

I'm a little late to this thread but I noticed that you really didn't get an answer to your question. For all the reasons already listed there isn't a "best" time. Some are better than others but...

I have this unit. I have it on a RAM mount at the pedestal and have had it there for a couple years. The RAM mount allows me to remove the chart plotter and stow it below when not in actual use.

Re: Where to Move to get into Sailing

Why move at all? If you are just getting into sailing, why leave Detroit. You have Lake Erie to the east and Lake Huron to the north. Great location until you learn to sail and really know what you...

Don’t over read too much into course titles. ASA 101 teaches you the basics . . . what the pointy end is called, the difference between a rope and a line, the stuff you need to know in order to learn...

Early July. The temps get better later in the season but the winds tend to drop off too.

We were expected to have read, learned and practiced everything in the ASA 101 basic sailing book prior...
