Re: Oil Filter Gasket Failure - Westerbeke

I had the same thing happen to me. The Sierra equivalent filter was not equivalent at all, now I just get the Westerbeke filters and they work great.

Re: Electric Diesel bleed pump advice...

I could use this groups help to figure out how to bleed the air out of my racor with an electric pump installed after the racor (which is the setup my boat came with). There's a valve to route the...

Re: Recognize this plumbing piece?

Ah, I never would have guessed! I'll just eliminate it (or replace it with a raw water strainer) as well as replace the bad section of hose then. Thanks everyone!

Recognize this plumbing piece?

On the head supply side I have this plumbing fixture that's leaking out of the hose barb. I'd like to replace it but I'm not sure what it is. Check valve, strainer, anti siphon? Anyone recognize it?...

Re: Davits Affecting Much?

We cruised our HC 38 for years with a 10.5ft RIB, 9hp outboard, and no davits. We stored it lashed upside down on the foredeck. Took us about 10 minutes to launch and attach the motor, gas tank, etc....

Re: looking 4 crew sandiego to Hawaii

End of May is pretty ideal for that route leaving socal. There's no perfect time but there's a reason everyone goes around that time since your odds of a good passage are high.

Re: Sea sickness, friends

[QUOTE=nshawdvm;1992517]I can't find Stugeron in Canada either. Where do you pick it up when you're here?

Re: Sea sickness, friends

I get seasick offshore and it usually takes me a couple days on passage to acclimate. Most people I've sailed with get at least a little seasick when exposed to a big swell for more than a few hours....

Re: Opinions on this 1988 Jonmeri 48 pilothouse

Thanks for the feedback on the Jonmeri. Still considering! I still have reservations about the teak decks, cored hull, and spade rudder. In terms of weight she's also a bit heavy at 18 tons for 48...

Opinions on this 1988 Jonmeri 48 pilothouse

I'm interested in this Finnish built boat but the 2 things giving me pause are the teak decks and the hull is balsa cored. It's 1988, has been re-powered, and looks to be in great shape.

1988...

Re: Buying a Boat -- Survey Repairs

There are generally 3 ways these things go down:

1. Overall valuation: if the surveyor values the boat below your agreed price you can negotiate based on that. That's a really strong and easy...

Re: Hiding Guns on Board

Odds your gun aboard will save your life, extremely low. Odds it'll save your life hidden in a hard to find and access secret compartment, almost nil.

Odds your gun will get you thrown in prison...
