Re: StarBoard vs Marine Plywood ?

Starboard: Take a piece of 1/2" Starboard and cut off a 1/4" strip. Now try to break that strip with your bare hands. Most of us can't do it, but not so with the best I/4"X1/2" strip of the best ply....

Re: Electric Motor and a Honda 2000 Generator?

Cruisers and Sailing forums,
I have a few minutes now waiting for daylight, to go outside and work. My electric motor was a success, but sadly not really practical for all conditions. e.g. I could...

Re: Blackwatch 24 / 19

It has been 5 years since the last post about the Blackwatch 18. I presently own the last one, the only gaff cat that was built and I'm entranced. She sails beautifully and is very easy to balance...

Re: Richardson Bay liveaboards, heads up!

Back in the late 1950's Richardson bay was beautiful. Old derelict ocean cargo schooners, brigantines, barges and misc. craft lay rotting along the waterfront. People (happy people) lived all over...

Annual Cruisers Forum Fee

I don't mean to be impolite, but whoever collects the fees, has been charging me double for the past couple years. I am now paid up until 2019. I'm 81 and this rate, I may not be able to catch up....

Re: varnish issues on exterior teak

For the past forty (40) years I just go sailing and let the salt spray take care of my teak. Once and a while depending on conditions, my teak and I need a bath, so I do both with soap, lite...

Re: End bird droppngs

I tried the fishing line in many conceivable configurations. Plus I spread around a couple fancy rubber snakes. The snakes actually move in the wind. NO LUCK!! I will spend a half hour removing the...

Re: Bowsprit Design

Hi Sam Plan B, Of course you know, we will believe want we wanna believe. With all due respect, I can overcome most all if not all your objections above. Toy boats that are just designed for racing...

Now that sounds like a good one. I will test it on the forward section first. Thanks, Ralph

Re: End bird droppngs

Thanks everyone. Cheoah, I hadn't thought of a ground. I'm going to think about how to overcome that detail. I wonder if I can strip the outside of a two wire cable, except where it is supported. At...

End bird droppngs

How about a low voltage electric fence set up through all the rigging, not to hurt, but only a discouraging tingle. Any suggestions, besides forcing me to walk the plank?

Re: The Death of the Ketch ?

Until you've sailed a ketch or yawl one doesn't realize what he is missing. I could do circles and figure 8's with my 50 footer in a crowded anchorage to the amazement of the other boat occupants....

Re: CF's photo management stinks!

Please, I just want to be able to rearrange my photos in my albums at will. Am I the only one that wishes to do that?

Re: CF's photo management stinks!

The photos cannot be rearranged to suit a sequence of events, If I add more photos, they again cannot be placed, other than at the end.

Am I doing something wrong?

James S, thanks. I'd sure like to see photos of some of your stuff. The '38 Ford Cabriolet is one of my favorites. Evokes lots of memories of my old neighborhood in NYC. Dual pipes with spark plug...

Re: Water spouts and lee shore sailing

Thanks zeehag, it would be an honor for me if you'd look up my profile and peruse my first 3 albums. I designed and hand built the Daedalus myself in Santa Barbara and launched her in '77. After that...

Re: Cutter Efficiency Sailing as a Sloop

[QUOTE=roverhi;1298690]I very strongly disagree on having a staysail boom. The way they are typically rigged, they end up with a sail with a big sag in the leach as soon as you crack off./QUOTE]

Re: cutter effeciancy sailing as a sloop

Paul you have a very beautiful boat. However, I prefer a self tending self furling club staysail cut low, with both booms visually close to the same angle. The foresail would be a furling yankee, A...

Re: cutter effeciancy sailing as a sloop

I've preferred cutters for many years. In heavy weather you can reduce sails efficiently. In every day weather to about 15 knots of wind the dbl hd sails are very exciting as I approach about 16...
