Re: Ford Lehman question

Replaced the original pump with a Whalbro FRG-9 electric and could not be happier + it’s a snap to bleed. FL-120. Have put 1500 hours on it since the changeover. Cars run 250k miles with electric...

Re: Chemical cleaning product for grime in the bilge?

Dishwasher detergent works great. Doesn’t require a lot of scrubbing and easily removed, wear rubber gloves if you have soft skin.

Re: Winter Boat Work|Storage|Live Space on Lake Ontario

Heated DIY friendly storage for a 34’ boat on Lake Erie near Toledo would run you about $4k for one winter. I would imagine Toronto prices would be higher.

Re: Am I looking for the perfect boat that doesn't exist?

If I run my single screw trawler - 22,000 pounds - at 6 knots I’m looking at 1.6 gal/hr or about 3.6 nm/gal

My previous sailboat 33’ at 6 knots under power burned less than a gallon an hour.

Re: YachtWorld changes filters again

They were bought out. Used to be run by very nice people, new owners have outsourced the web dev to the low bidder and it really shows.

Brokers and API users are all unhappy

Acetone to Aid in drying wet plywood core

Once plywood gets wet, and the bacteria goes to work, it’s structural qualities go to near zero. Dry it out, the bacteria goes to sleep, and what you have is so weak you can crumble it with your...

Re: How to know if there is enough room for you in the anchorage?

My chartplotter has an anchor alarm that paints a nice adjustable circle around the boat that overlays the chart and radar if it’s on. There’s a free phone app “ Anchor Alarm” that’s quite useful...

Re: Question for Liveaboards

We’re living on a 34’ Trawler that burns 1.2 gal/hr and want for nothing…. Been cruising 7 months.

When we went back to our dirt home for the holidays the bed seemed impossibly big…

Re: Teak and Holly floor boards

Clear epoxy wet sand and varnish. It’s a LOT of work, if the plywood is rotted I’d replace with something modern, a lot less work.

Re: Which Starlink receiver?

We have the RV plan, and got the nasty letter when we got 50 miles offshore. I did not upgrade and it works fine running at 6, 7 knots if we are in open water I shut it off.

Rectangular dish.

Re: Yanmar 35amp to 55amp

What CR180 said. Ballmar is the gold standard, you will not regret this expense, especially if you have refrigeration, chartplotter, radar, etc

Re: Changed our mind, new questions

FWIW I’ve taken a 34’ boat with 3’ draft down the Mississippi from Lake Michigan and there’s no way I’d do that regularly on a boat with 6’ draft. Too hard to stay in deep water, and definitely not...

Re: Wet Core

Tkeithlu is spot on. The technical term for a fiberglass/core structure is a torsion box. Almost all decks are rows of torsion boxes

Re: Headliner material

I used plastic soffit strips. Cheap, ventilate well, easy to clean. When I tell people what they are they look at me in disbelief.

Can’t take credit for the idea, saw it on some You Tube channel....

Re: What is name of this vhf?

Some 2m ham radios can be modified to transmit out of band on marine frequencies but it is technically illegal to do so. You might have one of those.

Re: WEBASTO FCF PLATINUM 10,000 BTU MARINE AIR CONDITIONER - 115V

It cools well. Heat, not so much. Running it heat mode it will freeze itself hard. In Auto it will struggle mightily but not freeze up.
