Adding Inline Fuel Filter - Tohatsu 3.5 HP 4 Stroke

I suspect that the fuel system is responsible for the majority of issues with these small outboards. I was fascinated to learn about the 3.5 to 5 upgrade available for my Tohatsu 3.5, and several...

Re: Sailing Charleston inlet to St. Johns Rivers inlet

My original post stated that my knowledge dated from the 1990's. Both I, and the jetties, have aged considerably since that time.

Re: Okeechobee

No question, but then we were (like perhaps other sailing bums) going on the cheap as a matter of course and we did what seemed like a good idea at the time.

Re: Okeechobee

That's a range that spans "possible" to "impossible." Indiantown Marina had in the past been difficult for some folks in that their fuel was at times questionable, and their service the same. I'm...

If you post the height of your rig (all inclusive) maybe some other ideas will follow.

Re: Anyone anchor in Watch Hill RI?

Many folks anchor off Napatree Beach, but as of 2018 it appeared to be quite filled with moorings so space may be an issue. There is fine swimming and beachcombing in the vicinity. You will have no...

Re: Block Island, RI Regulations Report 2020

I am a long time fan of BI (say 65 years or so) and it still has for me an aura of magic. No question.

However I would not be able to agree that "it has changed" in any sense because it's...

Re: Closest beaches around NYC where I can anchor

I responded to you earlier about the anchorage at Horseshoe Cove. I'm not at all a regular visitor, but the anchorage is, under most conditions, a suitable and safe stop. Glad you liked it.

Re: Block Island, RI Regulations Report 2020

How many folks suffering under the current difficulties do you think will be sympathetic to others who come from away and spend their days sailing around from port to port expecting a cordial...

Re: Newport RI Regulations Report 2020

There is no good method (or even good reason) to visit Newport. Period.

Jamestown is a separate matter.

Re: Cruising Guide Long island north to Maine

"Back in the day" we always relied on Duncan and Ware (Cruising Guide to the New England Coast) together with the Eldridge. This is still a great combo, but frankly the current edition of The...

Re: Insurance Sticker Shock

Cynicism on my part perhaps, but if you are getting into this yacht and looking for even a small amount of financial justification or relief, it's going to be a long winter.

Re: Sailing Charleston inlet to St. Johns Rivers inlet

It's been quite some time since I did this leg, but I recall an exit in the Charleston south jetty that saves a few miles. It was marked both on the jetty rocks and with several buoys. I took 5...

Re: Help Me Pay My Way (Well, Not Quite ... )

If an individual is seen begging, and a second individual observes that individual in the act and identifies the activity for what it is, wherein lies the derogation?

Re: Help Me Pay My Way (Well, Not Quite ... )

OP here (old phogy?).

I don' recall equating curiosity with enjoyment, but I suppose that's possible. I also don't recall complaining, so much as observing, what to me is a new type of online...

Re: grade my anchor setup

Here's what I think: To exapand your circle of friends here, start an anchor thread. Seldom fails, although the ultimate benefit is yet to be determined.

Re: SH HX870 “battery save” function?

The latter. It adjusts how often the GPS position updates (the GPS uses quite a bit of power in the HX870).

Re: Cruising culture, resources, facilities, and numbers along Maine coast.

I'd suggest that a good reason to sail the Maine Coast is to get as far away as possible from "Annapolis Culture." I've cruised extensively in both areas over recent decades, and I would not presume...

Aside from the "ad hominem" aspects of your comments, I'd probably agree.

Cheers.
