Re: Private purchase of sailing boat

I did my last two boat purchases as follows. With the first one, the seller and I had the same bank, so we went to the bank, he executed the back of the USCG documentation, and I did a transfer on...

Re: Private purchase of sailing boat

Let's be very clear about what you are saying. If a US Coast Guard documented boat acquires a maritime lien that is not recorded anywhere, it is your position that the lien does not stay with the...

Re: Private purchase of sailing boat

There is a whole class of liens called "maritime liens," and they stay with the vessel even through a purchase. They do not need to be recorded or registered in any way. When you sign a contract on...

Re: Data display for OpenCPN

It works great. There is a video in the listing showing an installation example.

Re: Flagging Vessel

Let's say I buy a catamaran in France that I want to use in the Caribbean, Bahamas and US. Can I flag it in the Dominican Republic? What are the costs? What is required on an annual basis?

Re: Seaflo Dry Bilge

If you daisy chain, whatever unit gets air first will suck air, and the other one will do nothing.

Re: Bilge pump problem. Seaflo

Manual operation means that if you power the brown wire, the pump will run such as if you connect the brown to a switch.

Re: Would You Buy a European 220V Boat for Use North America

Do you have any suggestions on the "step up converter?" It converts from 60hz to 50hz?

Thanks!

Re: Seatalk legacy comns with nema2000 gear

Why get new transducers if yours are working?

I will have to retain the Depth and wind display somewhere as the transducer wires connect directly to the displays. Then, the information is sent...

Re: Catching Fish while Sailing?

I have this hand rig I just unspool and cleat off. I just went into a fishing place and asked them to make up something for me to drag behind the boat. Every now and then I take a gander behind the...

If you can get him to go, sounds outstanding. Options for finishing high school are minor details.

Re: YANMAR 3YM30 dumps oil into bilge

I was wondering that too, and the Yanmar guy said something about that as well. Mine was just sitting in the hole with nothing holding it. The dipstick is way easier to pull out. Further, that...

Re: YANMAR 3YM30 dumps oil into bilge

I found the plug. Fits very loosely into the hole. I carefully white taped it around the top of the plug only. THen I pressed it in good with a screwdriver handle. It just rattled out. It wasn't...

This just happened to me yesterday! I am ordering a couple of these. Thinking about tapping that hole and plugging it for good.

Re: Mantus Versus Fortress...... The Ultimate Lawnmower Test :)

The Fortress is clearly the superior anchor in sand and mud. As noted above, the angle was set wrong.

However, the Fortress may not be the best choice for a primary anchor if you are in an area...

Westerbeke 7.6 BTD dead at the panel

The underlying problem with the generator is that it runs for a while and stops.

I read that if I hold the preheat button down when it is about to stop, it will bypass the 3 shutoff switches.

What to drink then?

Keep in mind that much bottled water is just tap water.

Chicago has excellent tap water.

Re: Hull slap-is it a problem

I bought a Leopard 47 in Grenada and sailed it to Fort Lauderdale in all sorts of conditions. There were times where we would get an unsettling "bang" from below that seemed to be just wrong. It...

Re: Dyneema instead of stainless for stays and shrouds

That is not the point at all. The point is whether an old, weak cat is better off with Dyneema for the rig or worse off. It may be that it is worse off.

Re: Dyneema instead of stainless for stays and shrouds

"For sure" is an interesting conclusion. I am just wondering if the Dyneema can cause higher shock loads to be transmitted to a vessel.

Re: Dyneema instead of stainless for stays and shrouds

Is there any concern that using Dyneema for shrouds might actually cause a failure, especially on a multihull?

With a monohull, the boat rolls and heels, so impact forces on the rig are never...
