Had the same problem when I played with Win8 some weeks ago. Solved it by not using OpenGL (Options/display. Tested maps CM93 and the Dutch ENC's. |

Thank you for the support but it is, unfortunately, all in vain. For now I give up. Maybe things work better for me in the next version of OpenCPN. |

After re-installing I was using of course using the default exe, opencpn.exe which, according to the properties, has file version 3.3.604.0. I replaced it by opencpn3.3.604.exe from File Thingie.... |

What USGlobalsat means is that they don't have a Win8 driver they support. Doesn't mean the GPS can't be made to work. |
