Re: Barebones or Fully outfitted?

I always say if we ever sell, somebody is going to be one lucky boat owner!

Back to the original, know yourself and what is important to you. If going now is the most important thing, buy the...

Re: Barebones or Fully outfitted?

Bare bones, stripped boat for me.
This is because I am married and sail with an anal retentive engineer with a serious case of OCD. Buying an outfitted boat just means that the inferior/not perfect...

Re: Young Professional Liveaboards near Houston, TX

Define young? Clear lake area is a mixed bag of sailors- plenty of older retired folks (they have the discretionary funds for those big new shiny boats), lot's of young families and yes, there are...

Re: Dual passports

I never said you would be exempt from VAT, quite the contrary actually. Perhaps I did not word it correctly. My point still stands- do your homework as every case is different depending on lenght of...

Re: Dual passports

Not true. My daughter has dual citizenship- Us and UK. I am US, hubby is UK, daughter was born in the US.

The US does not recognize dual citizenship. This is not an issue. When flying or clearing...

Re: Residency / Homeschooling / Boat Registration

Texas is actually one of the easiest States in which to HS. Not only are the "requirements' very easy and loose at best, there are several organizations such as https://www.thsc.org/ to help you...

Re: What questions to ask when looking to buy?

Have you measured the tanks to be certain that the stated capacity is correct?
Seems like everyone likes to over state their capacity. :/

Re: Question about buying a used boat

Re: New and Seeking Advice

If you can find a spot on a recreational racing boat as crew, that will really up your skill level. usually the only cost is time, a willingness to work hard and beer to share. If you become known as...

Not everyone drinks but everyone eats. ;) I would BYOB for yourself and maybe a couple to share but by bringing food you are absolutely guaranteed of being welcome.

Ditto to what Raindog said...

Re: What Builder Makes Good Quality Full Keel Sailboats?

I'm glad someone mentioned Island Packets. We looked seriously at one and my husband (who really is not a full keel fan) had to admit that it sailed and pointed higher much better than he...

Re: Bluewater Cruisers for under $15,000

Not quite 15,000 but I highly doubt he will find what he wants for 15,000. For 22,500 though, its pretty darned close....

Re: Getting to and from the Yucatan Penninsula by sea

Re: New To Boating And Need Help On Costs Please!!

I have to disagree with your upkeep numbers- we do not normally spend $42,000 a year on upkeep or marina fees. Marina fees vary depending on where you are but those numbers are extraordinarily high....

Re: List of costs out there?

We are refitting a 42 foot boat and I would say our money and time spent will be extraordinarily close to the numbers posted by Stevens 47. I think people stating 20-30% of purchase price is not the...
