Re: What seacock grease?

Yes, I absolutely agree with using the seacocks often! We open all of ours every time we use the boat, even if they won't be in use, and close them again when we leave.

I was referring to the...

Re: What seacock grease?

My shipwright recommended lanolin grease. Just squirt it up when you haul out for antifoul and work the lever back and forth to get the moving bits well coated.

Re: S&S Defiance 30 steering pedestal

Further to this stiff steering issue, we were unable to remove the wheel shaft from the pedestal as the original plastic bearings were so degraded that they started to break into bits and kept...

Re: S&S Defiance 30 steering pedestal

Finally we got Happy Hour onto the hard stand for some needed work.

The stiff rudder is partly resolved. Upon investigation, when we dropped the rudder, we found that the bushing was turning with...

Re: Furler-how many turns?

That may prove to be quite true. A smaller line around the furler might well be a good way to go.

Re: Furler-how many turns?

That's amazing. We have chosen to not go with sun protection on the genoa. Instead, we will have a zipped sock that we can hoist using the spinnaker halyard (masthead).

Re: Furler-how many turns?

The line is somewhat degraded, hence being replaced. But yes, I will do that. I just don't know how many turns were used. I'll just put on the max and go from there :)

Re: Furler-how many turns?

OK, do I just load up the furler with as many turns as it will take? I have the old furler line so I could just put as many turns on as it will take, leaving about a foot of line as it leaves the...

Furler-how many turns?

When we acquired our S&S 30, the genoa had been shredded in a storm and had been removed from the boat. We now have a new genoa and am wondering how many turns will be required on the furler when it...

Refrigerant cooler maintenance

Hi everyone

We have this refrigerant cooler in our S&S Defiance 30. There is a compressor attached to the little Nanni 260HE. The cooler takes in raw seawater from the strainer and after passing...

The aluminium mast on our S&S Defiance 30 is being lifted off next week for rigging replacement. The mast is painted white, and is in generally good condition apart from some chips and wearing...

Re: Seaflo Raw Water Strainer - Improvement?

Looking at the design of the Seaflow strainer, it appears to me that you need to prime it so that the water level is at the top with minimal airspace. That head space is essential for proper...

For other users that come along to browse this thread, the battery connectors are very commonly in use with RC battery packs, so electronic stores and hobby stores will have them. I have made all of...

Re: Impeller looks bad

Whilst this thread is "sorted", I just thought I'd put this up to help folks looking up this thread down the track. It's a good diagram of the basic principles of how this type of pump works.

Re: Anyone using Chinese ONWA electronics? Sample quote

Indeed, they have good features for the price. The 12" one is massive and would not fit my space. Even the 8" KP-8299 (basically the same as the 12" KP-1299) is quite large. I don't have any...
