Re: Will a furled jib destroy the rig?
I agree. Gord is correct. Having a furler that takes some of the load using a halyard, rather than the furlers with the internal halyards also reduces stress on the rig.

I have a little tiny Bruce anchor for my dinghy. It sets fast and it was the right price of $5 at a garage sale.

Re: What's faster, questions on balance while cruising long distance
The original question asked what is faster for cruising long distance. This was followed with questions to the amount of acceptable weather helm. When I was little, one of the first things I was...

Re: Ammonia smell in cabin
Ammonia type odor is very common from aging waste tank hoses. Particularly if replaced with the incorrect vinyl type hoses. Battery odor is a different smell. It can be strong enough to make your...

Re: Post Collision Repair or Total
Sorry to lose sailors. In any case, if the insurance company will total it, great. If not, you might do better to part the boat out. Well. What's left of it. Winches aren't hard to remove and will...

Re: Prospective boat. Schooner but no masts!!
Generally, sticking with the original sail plan is the best bet. Changing the rig can have significant changes to the balance of the helm and can dramatically change the handling. Do you know the...

Re: Bottom sand blasting
Shouldn't be actual sandblasting used as it will destroy the gelcoat. Sodablasting is safer. I have seen grey, black and blue barrier coats, red is a new one. I had very good luck with Total Boat...

I sometimes am reminded how nice it is to have my boat on the great lakes. My rigging can be nearly 50 years old and show no real wear aside from some minor stretching.

Mostly a list of desireables. It also depends how you intend to use the boat; leisure, racing, cruising, or some combination.
Self tailing winches.
All possible lines run back to the cockpit....
