Re: Fat bottomed girls

That NOT the impression I have reading this : https://www.rolexfastnetrace.com/fr/resultats/resultats-2021

On the fastnet 2021, class 40 are about 1 day faster (3d 10h vs 4d 12h) than J/121,...

Re: Fat bottomed girls

Exact. That s why IMOCA have wide transom and twin rudders. They just do Vendee Globe in light weather upwind, and protected waters.

Re: Discovery shipyard financial trouble - what can those of us in build do?

There was somewhat similar thing in France with yard Fora Marine RM yachts.

Basically, the company went bankruptcy although it has bunch of orders. The very big problem was that orders, although...

Re: Requirements: Does the boat exist?

Of course, it exists.

I do not think Beneteau have something. Even shoal draft would be too deep.

Older Jeanneau in centerboarders versions like Sun Legend, Sun Kiss might fit. They should be...

Re: Fat bottomed girls

Seems that Italia 11.98, X4³ mkII, or GS 44 do have rather wide transom, are single rudder, and do not have a very distorded hull ...

And are even good to very good sailboats ...

Still single rudder, though.

Re: Raising, lowering, reefing from the cockpit.

Problems with mainsail handling from the cockpit are :

Line tangling : It is likely you will have reef lines, main sheet and halyard on the same winch with clutches.

Space : spray hood / dodger...

Re: Electronic Backstay

If your backstay is 10mm wire, you need something with a breaking load above 75kN, and a working load around 40 to 50 kN.

On a hydraulic ram, with forces above the working load, a over-pressure...

Re: Boat Size !

On maintenance costs for older boats, I think there is a considerable lucky factor and psychological factor. Far more important than a difference in boat age (25-40 years) or length (32"-38")

I...

I fear it is very very very hard to find a production boat (not a one off) built other ways :

Re: German Made Sailboats with Raised Deck Saloon Designed for Long Distance Cruising

This is my strictly own opinion :

For a 40 footer, the Sirius is a very good seaworthy and comfortable sailboat.

For a 750 k€ sailboat, the Sirius sucks. A near 20 tons 54 foot Hanse 548 is...

Re: Full keel, fin keel, or no keel (lifting keel/centerboard) for heavy weather and

I fear none show significant advantage.

For ISO STIX (STability IndeX in ISO/EU rules), now with near 20 years of proven history, the main factor of seaworthiness is the length.

The base value...

Re: Largest bilge keel boat trailerable in EU

In France, you can find the Biloup 77.

But beware : advertised manufacturer displacement is between 1500-1800 kg.
Real displacement is around 2000-2500 kg.

Beware 2 : you need a sizeable car...

Yes, I think.

I am even wondering if the fresh air mechanical ventilation is not simply the blower of the air heater unit.

On bigger boats (say above 45' -50') genset and climate control unit can give correct...
