Re: Searching for Texas DIY Marina

Another option is Pulling Bull, a yard in/near Rockport - which is south of Galveston and a little north of Port Aransas.

Re: Yanmar 2GM sudden severe corrosion

If the model #has an F, then it has fresh water / coolant radiator (still uses raw water to cool exhaust through elbow). Such as 2GM20F.

Re: sailing lessons or self teach?

I self taught, but as a kid on a sun fish in a small lake. Making it capsize in high wind was great fun. Best was “falling” in the water and sailing (controlling main sheet) from the water behind the...

Re: Should I Buy a New Main ?

Is it true that US regulation (new as of~2010?) abolished a component in sail thread which results in shortened sail life?

(Local boat contractor informed me of this, so I had head sail patched...

Re: Electric transportation when you get there!

I think I agree, but never heard of, or know what, a hoon is.
If hoon is similar to loon or hun-yuck, then I agree.

Re: Order of steps when buying a boat?

Re: Buying USCG Documented Boat: Docs needed to bring it home?

Don’t wait for new CG certificate. Get “running papers” from whom ever is managing your documentation. :smitten:

Re: Please, do not whine....

Here, the rate is based on the slip and you can’t exceed slip length. So a 20’ boat could pay as much as a 40’ boat.

Re: Buying USCG Documented Boat: Docs needed to bring it home?

You can get “running papers” from the seller or the documentation person that applies for your CG certificate. It took over 6 months for me to get the CG certificate.

Re: Volvo MD30A Water pump repairable or replace ?

Considering the stakes, I’d replace. But that’s just my opinion.

Re: My Keel Joint

I’m no expert, but there appears to be some corrosion there.

Let’s wait for others wilt more experience to comment…

Re: My Keel Joint

Does the left side of the fifth photo align with the end of the keel that appears to be separating from the hull (seen in first two photos)?

Re: Do you leave your bimini and dodger up in port?

Took Bimini canvas down for first time yesterday morning, due to threat of high wind from Nicholas. Will put it back up next week.

Re: Need alternative to Pirate flag

Good point garyfdl! Jean Lafitte (or Laffite) was a French pirate whom the US government asked to protect the Gulf from the British navy. Back then, the British navy ruled the seas and the fledgling...

Re: Why does everyplace I sail seem to have its own special magic?

Inside joke. I’ve heard friends mention “their cabin on the lake” - and thought ‘your cabin is BY the lake, mine is only one ON the lake’.

Semantics...

Re: Solo Ocean Crossing: 40 ft or 26 ft?

Solo ocean crossing in 40’ = a little nuts.
Solo ocean crossing in 26’ = more nuts.

Re: Why does everyplace I sail seem to have its own special magic?

Pepin is nice.

Have you been to the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior, near Bayfield WI?
Very nice. Sailed there for many years. The 4+ hour drive from the cities wasn’t fun.

Now I’m 12...

Re: opinion needed

We chose a Beneteau in that size range. Shoal keel lets us sail in the bays (<5’).
In-mast main furling is great for us, as it allows us to keep large Bimini up for shade from Texas sun. (Flaking...
