Re: Incident in the Whitsundays

Jim

Look who's article it was. Explains the environmental beat up. I have no issues with the fine though for what he was charged for.

Re: iam thinking of buying a first 47.7 advice please good or bad

I have the predecessor (45f5) with the tall rig/deep keel. If the 47.7 is anything like ours, the light air performance is a real bonus. We have been sailing when others are motoring at the same...

Re: solo anchoring technique

That is pretty much how I do it too. Just forward of the drop mark, reverse down, into neutral and then to the bow to drop and set anchor. If needed, back to the helm to get some more reverse...

Re: Fuel consumption: sail/motor. are you serious?!

I always prefer nm/L at cruise when comparing boats. I have stink boats and a yacht. Tinnie is 3nm/L (4.5m Honda 50hp), Centre console is 1.2nm/L (6m Yamaha 115hp), Yacht is 2.1nm/L (14m VP55hp)....

Re: Killer whales off the Pacific Attacking Boats Too!

They just want to play! Spent around 2.5-3hrs interacting with these guys. Very intelligent and definately reactive to us. Daughter patted one and then it came back to be patted again. Not Orcas...

Re: Docking to a Windward Finger

I have a 46' yacht and leave/dock it solo a bit. Uusally trade winds blowing me off the dock finger and a big $$ stink boat docked to leeward beside me). I use a pivot line, mentioned above, from a...

Re: Boat fridge - do you leave it on 24/7?

Mine is left running all the time. Cool when I come aboard. Ice is there, drinks are cold.

Re: Planning for our Brisbane - Sydney - Melbourne - Adelaide - Perth - Kimberley pas

For your boat, I would add Lake Macquarie for a cruising destination. Have to navigate a bridge opening and channel but inside, the cruising is great.

Re: Buying Sailboat Back From Insurance Company

I have done this with buying my damaged boat back from the insurer. They didnt write it off as such so it didnt affect the title as I took an agreed settlement. I have subsequently sold that boat...

Re: Booze underway

Generally no, but have been on boats where a single sundowner is consumed at the end of each day if mild weather exists and is forecasted. I am ok and and have enjoyed that. Have been on a boat...

Re: Catamaran Paradox

If you really want noise downstairs, try a stripped out full carbon race yacht. Only shear tireness can get you into z land in a bit of wave.

Re: Best mounting bracket for my tablet

I have found Quad lock very good. Set up several receivers and easy to transfer. Seems tough and easy to disconnect when needed.

Re: Sailing from Townsville to Sydney

Big difference between delivering a boat and cruising it. Difference in attitude and tactics. Ann's post summed it up pretty well.

Re: 4m/20HP dinghy for 38ft yacht

That is a lot of weight and size swinging around back there on a modest sized boat. Of course a lot depends on how/where you sail, what you goals are, davit capacity. If you sail in sheltered...

Re: Exposed fiberglass below waterline

Mine just got hauled and had some underwater repair work done. Long all lead keel with rub damage on the bottom of it. No issues. Fill, fair, paint over with antifoul, get on with life.

Beside the correctly mentioned above, aircraft and cars predominately want even, lighter thin coats. Boat bottoms want thicker coat so as to have material thickness to progressively wear through. ...

Re: Moving to Sunshine Coast next year, Liveaboard in Marina?

New doctors are always welcome in the area. Hervey Bay is known as a population of 'newly wed or nearly dead' so plenty of oldies there. My yacht is there.

Tin Can Bay Marina would be an...

Re: Rigging with swept back spreaders

Cranking up your main (cap) strouds first bends your mast. I think you are working back to front in order. Ds first, then caps. Is it a masthead or fractional rig?
