Re: Hulls like a Contessa 32

You seem new from the number of your posts. I have read a lot here, and watched a million videos on youtube. There is a broker, Gary Fretz, in Florida, who specialties in catamarans, but his advice...

Re: Hulls like a Contessa 32

Thanks Thierry. Not so well, I got pretty hyped up on buying a sailboat, but have eased off into a slower perspective. I turn 66 in two weeks, and I will work for at least two more years. I still...

Marinas in New York City

I see there are about 20 marinas in/around NYC. Anybody have knowledge of the costs, and difficulty of finding a slip for a catamaran with ~21 foot beam?

What about living aboard?

Thanks.

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

Since the circumference of the Earth is 24,901 miles, that's equal to seven times around the planet. Not bad. Too bad you can't get frequent flier mileage for that.

Disadvantages of a pilot house design?

I'm intrigued by the Dufour 12000CT, because 1) it has a wheel inside the cabin AND outside in the cockpit, and 2) it has big windows all around the cabin, giving lots of visibility and light, unlike...

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

I think you are saying that heaving to is an attempt to control/reduce motion so those things can be done, and that a cat doesn't have that motion that needs to be reduce so doesn't have to heave to...

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

When I saw your post, I immediately jumped online and searched for trailer sailboats. Lo and behold, there was a 21-ft in nice shape with trailer for $2,500 just 2 hours away on elephant Butte lake....

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

Last night I watched the documentary on the Queen's birthday storm. My god. The couple on the cat had to leave their boat. It was still floating at the time but it wasn't safe. Several monohulls were...

Re: Where will boat buying be in 2 years -- pandemic.

Hi LittleWing, thanks for the continued support. It's not exactly like that. I haven't dreamed of this for 30 years. I went to a boat show (well you know all this) when I started grad school and was...

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

I don't know what a trailer sailor is. I presume a sailboat small enough to trailer. Can you cruise in one? Could solve a lot of problems and get me on water sooner.

This sounds interesting....

That is really a nice post, wolfgal. The kind that sinks in and sticks around for a while, adjusting my thinking. Thank you.

Re: Full Keel Sailboats

Hudson, can you name an example of the actual full keel boats?

Why would you want a cut-away between keel and rudder, and can you name an example of that?

Thank you.

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

Hi Yihang, I feel very fortunate when there are responses to a question, and I tend to just be quiet and read and learn. What I learn here goes far to shape my thinking. Thank you to you and to...

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

Where will boat buying be in 2 years -- pandemic.

I have read people saying that in two years a lot of these boats people are buying now will be back on the market. I wonder if many people will buy used boats....apparently they are buying...

Re: Buying your first boat, advise from an owner.

Sailorboy1, the Cal-39 and the Hunter 410 are almost the same size (39' and 41' right?). I'm curious what made you move from the Cal 39 to the Hunter 410?

Thanks.

Re: 1979 cal 31 opinion

TrentePieds, does Maxim 2 mean the cost of a boat that is being sailed a lot, once in a while, or not being used?

Let's say over 10 years the maxim says $150,000 total for keeping the boat in a...

Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

Every time I notice it, there are twice as many people reading the monohulls forum as reading the multihulls forum. I am really curious about this. Cats have what everyone wants, supposedly....no...

I've been reading a lot of threads on this. My tentative plan is to be retired and have a boat and start sailing in 1 or 2 years. Right now, I connect through my internet service provider to the...

Re: When is it too late to start living the dream?

Time2Go, would you say a bit more about why you find a mono to be more seakindly than a cat? I thought it was the other way around?

Thanks much sir.
