Re: Yanmar 4JH57 - Alternator

XT-DF-170 or XT-CR-250 both fit

yanmar uses 3.15" dual foot

special 61-0050 K6 pulley for that engine's offset

get the kit

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

wow, great dialog and advice.

Yes I imagine the cooler bonding wires, instead of being routed (easy job taken) to the same DC negative bus used for the fridge installation, should be lengthened...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

I just want to know why my fridge has DC current to/through the coolers.

I did all the tests right. I only have a shift at the reference electrode when I turn on a device I have clearly shown has...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

No. On the next page test 4 the same manual states:

"systematically turn off and on each DC circuit break and and its attached equipment...look for a shift in hull potential over 10mV...rapid...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

That's the thing. When the units are off (2 years of local sailing and refit didn't need them) then the bonded cooler zincs were protecting the boat and I had to replace them very frequently.

Now...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

Agreed. If I don't hear a good reason to keep them "bonded" they go away taking the zinc eating with them, as proven by an engineering approach. Thanks for the support.

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

Full check done. No other issues. Completely driven by coolers.
Potential right in the middle of zinc protection range specified by the manual.

Tempting but the Frigoboat manual specifies in...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

OK Jedi I was able to do ask you suggested and made measurements with the "bonding" disconnected.

Here are more details as I just measured other things.

1. Summary: zinc comsumption concerned...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

Thanks Oceanride. I think I'm being a bit dense here, a lot of this makes no sense to me.

When I had everything on the boat completely off, all switches and breakers and devices, I took a hull...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

UPDATE

and thanks for the support above (I have sent this to Coastal Climate COntrol also)

The installer wired the cooler bonding plates to the negative bus they installed next to the fridge...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

Installed by Coastal Climate Control around 10 years ago. Not scrapping. I have separate fridge and freezers using low power and functioning well. Just leaking somehow. I may need new...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

Thanks. There are only bonding wires to in-water fittings. None elsewhere in the fridge system.

I have yet to disconnect the bonding from the coolers but am curious enough to cut these and see if...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

Yes we have leakage current leaving the boat via the "skin condenser" plates

PS this is a 12v DC system

PPS does anyone think having this in the bonding network makes it worse? I can't think...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

Measured baseline hull potential with - electrode in water and + lead at engine ground

Then turned on fridge/freezer and the reading went 16mV more negative

Boatzincs says anything over 10mV...

Re: Frigoboat water-cooled grounding

Hi Karanga,

Were you able to resolve this issue? I too have stray current from the same setup verified as Boatpoker suggested by using the silver chloride electrode test.

When my fridge is on...

Re: Stray Current found - need fix advice

Yah the cooler "plates" are both bonded.

Are you implying that the current leakage to the coolers, once separated from the bonding network, would stop showing up at the electrode-to-hull...

Stray Current found - need fix advice

Hi all, humbly asking for any expertise here.

Finally got the silver test-electrode and went off hunting for the cause of my relatively short-lived prop anodes.

Started with hull reference...

Re: Disposing of Solid Waste From a Dessicating Toilet

I'm able to use only one quart of water for a brick. poured on all sides of the brick in a dark garbage bag. seal and leave in sun for humid dirt sauna. break up brick into coir/dirt.

now you have...

Re: Starlink Internet

Thanks, but I'm worried the language about the other dish not being supported for mobile priority (ocean) will come around to bite me later.

not that I'm happy with the power consumption.

For light conditions a single snubber with a wichard hook long enough to be under water - thus about 5 meters off the bow

for long-term and weather I use a double bridle that can be 5 meters to 10...
