Re: How to get barnacles off saildrive and prop

I use Propspeed on both the props and the sail drives. One product makes it simpler. And it seems to work well.

When I could get Micron...33 was it?...spray, I used that on the SDs.

Re: Loading and unloading batten cars from a mast rail

My Harken cars use Torlon ball bearings; not sure if that is typical.

Yes, you can buy them from the manufacturer, but considering how many you may have, it can be quite expensive.

I found...

Re: Mystery Yanmar Alternator Bracket

Thanks Pete!

That was the first thing I looked at after reading your post.

i tried screwing a bolt but it wouldn't go. Maybe not surprising after 24 years with too small a bolt. I then tried a...

Mystery Yanmar Alternator Bracket

We are installing new alternators on a pair of 3GM30FW engines.

I had read that on Yanmars, at least that size, the mounting bolt (I call it the pivot bolt) is smaller than what is called for on...

Re: Fuses and circuit breakers for LiFePO4

Thank you Captain Rivet, and CharlieJ.

Thanks More; when you say "from busbar to switch fuse on board" do you mean the switch/fuse on the panel? And what is pol?

It's late and perhaps I'm not...

Re: Fuses and circuit breakers for LiFePO4

Where does the manual switch need to be?

I am installing two 300 Ahr LFP batteries in parallel. Fuse on each positive post, cables then to a power post, and then to a switch.

Does code...

Re: Battery Cable Crimping Tool

Thanks for all the suggestions. I should have stated that my cable is 4/0 so it will require a bigger crimper.

It seems I will have access to a crimper, so won't ned to buy one...yet.

Re: Battery Cable Crimping Tool

Yes, I looked at that, but unfortunately, I have two 25 ft 4/0 cables already in place and fished through a couple of tight spots and not where I'd have any surface to pound on. I could extract tails...

Re: Battery Cable Crimping Tool

I looked at a hydraulic one like that on Amazon first, but with the smaller sizes, they only include every other size die.

So can you crimp #1AWG with a #2AWG die?

Battery Cable Crimping Tool

If I can't find one to borrow, I may need to buy one for a couple of crimps of different size lugs.

Since it will only be used a few times, I figure one from Amazon will do, but can anyone...

Re: Navigating the Pamlico Sound in a 42' cat

Study the charts ahead of time and mark all bail out inlets you can use.

You probably can plan day hops but it will take much longer.

But make sure they are safe to enter at the time, or you...

Re: Navigating the Pamlico Sound in a 42' cat

Someone posted here a suggestion that might give you some ideas. He had a too tall mast as well, plus a deep keel.

He made a series of day-night-day hops, arriving each second day before dark.

Re: International Micron 350 -- Experiences?

Battery Connections And Switches

This is for a new LFP system, but being LFP is only slightly relevant.

There will be two batteries in parallel. To keep it simple, as well as to minimize and keep equal cable lengths (that's the...

Re: Depthsounder 4” round replacement

Is Micron 66 no longer available? That's done a great job for me. Two or more seasons and more.

Re: Fuel Transfer Pump + Jerry Can

This. I use a hose of maybe 1.25" ID. It empties my 25 liter jug in less time than I can fill it up at the pump.

If you do this, it's important to fill the container right to the top, or your...

Why SR Mariner?

Thought they out of business, or nearly so.

I had a Nav10 on a later boat and it did well, though.

Re: Replacing Amiot traveller system

Our Voyage 430 cat has a curved track, by Lewmar. While it is curved, it has a larger radius than the distance from gooseneck to the mainsheet blocks. It looks like yours has an even larger radius...
