Winter storage and goldenrod

Hate to bring up winter storage in August but I was thinking about ways to ensure I have no issues in the spring. Prior to my current boat, I had a large camper that I winterized every year. Living...

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

To close this topic and for others who may encounter the same issue, the problem is solved. I put the fake-a-lake on the through hull intake and duct taped the outdrive intake. Turned the water on...

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

I bought a set of the factory Mercury muffs with the stainless steel rod as suggested. With the RW pump removed and the hoses laying in the bilge, I will install the muffs on the Bravo III outdrive...

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

I think you might be right. Here is a terrible picture but one that shows a mystery black hose (I suspect from the through hull) joining a "Y" fitting with the red hose. The combination then...

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

Okay - I'm in "broken bolt" company.

I didn't get to take photos (yet) of the hoses but I will. I did get photos of the impeller and pump. The impeller was perfect - no damage at all. The...

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

Got the raw water pump pulled last night but quickly discovered the previous owner left me with a broken bolt in the block

After 4 hours, left handed drill bits, easy-outs, cursing,...

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

Will do! The current lightning and rain is keeping me inside the house :frown:

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

I probably ran it enough to start the engine, climb down the ladder. Stare at the outdrive exhaust to look for water. Scramble back up the ladder. Look for leaks in the engine bay. Go back down...

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

Solid advice. I've seen these Perko systems but I've read a few horror stories. Some stories seemed a bit embellished. I've heard they've been redesigned.

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

It was after 11pm last night so I didn't get the raw water pump pulled. I hope to pull the pump this evening but we are expecting some thunderstorms. Either way, I'll try to post some pictures of...

Re: Mercruiser overheating on muffs

Okay, so my bonehead actions probably fried the impeller. I have a new impeller ordered. I will remove the raw water pump and replace the impeller. In the future I'll switch to just pulling the...

Mercruiser overheating on muffs

Hello - I finally picked up my new-used 2010 Crownline 260CR last week. Pretty excited to get it in the water but I want to verify everything is working correctly. I put a set of muffs on the...

Re: Cored Hull - power boats

So how can you tell? If you are looking at a used boat in the 2000 to 2008 era, how do you know if it has a cored hull below the waterline? Obviously you cannot ask the broker if you can remove...

Re: Cored Hull - power boats

Would it be fair to say "most" power boats have cored hulls?

Cored Hull - power boats

Looking at options for power boats and I found a nice 2004 Chaparral. However, I notice the ad said "balsa cored hull." I didn't realize these had cored hulls. Is the ad wrong? Is this common for...

Carb versus fuel injection

Why do a lot of boats in the 1990's and 2000's still have a carburetor? Fuel injection was introduced to mass production in the 1980's (yes, it was introduced long before with mechanical fuel...

Day Cruisers - Brand Opinions

Hello - I'm looking for a mid cabin day cruiser for the great lakes (approx 30 feet). I have a list of all my must-haves. I've looked at different brands and it's obvious some are targeted for the...

Re: Gelcoat damage - impact or not?

Thanks for the advice. This boat is equipped with almost all my must-haves. However, at $35K asking price, this seems like too much risk for me to take. I'm going to walk away from this one.

Gelcoat damage - impact or not?

Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a 2006 Chaparral Signature 276 but it has some gelcoat damage. The dealer indicated it was not from an impact. They said it is just cosmetic. I'm not certain so I...
