Re: Opinions on CAL 3-30

Actually, quite a few of the Cal 34s have a tiller, mine included. I too like the feel of a tiller, but for single handing, be sure you have a good tiller pilot.
As far as speed, I guess you would...

Re: Opinions on CAL 3-30

As sarafina mentioned, if you are looking for solid and something big enough to live on but single hander friendly, check out the Cal 34s. Absolutely perfect for the east coast and Bahamas.

Re: Bought a Cal 34

Very nice boat, looks to be in great shape. Have been working on a 1968 Cal 34 for 4 years now, finally getting to where I want to be. Let me know if you have any questions, always love to talk Cal.

Re: panama canal fees to rise

So all told for a 35 foot boat transiting the canal, who has done it lately? What was your cost, did you use an agent?

Re: Water Quality In Tanks and Watermakers. Need Advice/Help

I have a 1968 Cal 34 but think the setup is the same for the water tank under the V birth. Unfortunately on the '68, there is no access what so ever to get into the tank so we had to strategically...

Re: How Many Have a Boat Blog or Website ?

Started my blog a little over 2 years ago. So far it has been a lot more working on the boat than sailing her. This year will be different...or at least I am telling myself that.

Re: Sailboat Christmas Present?

Lets see, a pair of binoculars, a handheld GPS in case the other 2 go out, a handheld VHF to replace the one that went flying overboard last summer, a small tool set to replace the pieces I lost in...

Re: Buying boat for 3K?

That's how I got my current boat. Bought for peanuts from the marina that was given the boat for payment on work and slip fees from the PO.

Re: Buying boat for 3K?

12 years ago I bought my first boat, a 1971 Coranado 27 for $2,500 and it truly was in ready to sail condition. The sails were in great shape, above and below decks were clean and comfortable, what...

Re: Cal 36 Project

Congrats wylekyote on the new addition. I might be a bit biased, but Cals are great boats and a solid foundation to start from. I just hope you have an account at the ACME marine division, you will...

Re: rugs on the boat

I have used commercial grade carpet to cover the fiberglass sole for the last 3 years now and have had no oder issues what so ever. It's made for high traffic and is somewhat water resistant. Liked...

As usual David, you have hit the nail on the head. I too have the same issue with my SO. She is a "mountain girl" and loves the camping, hiking, tree and stream thing. She hates long periods of...

Re: O'Day 23 blue water sailable??

Your best bet would be to take her up the ICW and then break her in on the Chesapeake Bay. The waters off-shore around Cape Fear and Hatteras are always a big concern if the weather goes bad....
