Re: Saildrive shaft seal replacement -- "pro" only?

The seals are removed by pressing INWARDS, (because there's a lip in the housing outwards of them), per the Bavaria manual but contrary to what my professional had (yes i read his manual to satisfy...

Re: Need to abandon crew

I got 'cured' from the enthusiasm to take-on unknown crew the last time I did it, so have since been giving this some thought.
My latest ruminations were to advertise for travel companions or 'ride...

Re: Gaskets for Yanmar 3GM30F mixing elbow

I'm having trouble zooming in on your pics on my phone.
BUT on my volvo exhast elbow, the gasket is between exh manifold and the elbow/riser (the latter is seawater cooled).
Instead of a gasket...

Re: Volvo D1-20f raw water pump

I've overhauled my d1-30 seawater pp twice. Never replaced the shaft or bearings. Now 2400hrs.
Easiest to remove entire pp from the engine and do it on the bench. As i recall, the shaft needs to...

Re: Rotary drive Auto Pilot

G'day Bones,
I have a Lewmar Integra (Constellation?) installed on my Bavaria 37.
The steering on this boat was designed by Lewmar and all other parts are Lewmar; so the sprocket on the wheel has...

Re: Lightning Protection for Electronics

A few years back whilst a storm was brewing and clouds getting purpler, I disconnected my VHF coax at the base of the mast, thinking I was soooo clever, then subsequently heard a 'clicking' noise...

Re: questions about anchor chain

I like the idea of combo chain/rope rode , because it has given me a fast method of getting the boat afloat after grounding. I.e. easier to take the heavy bit (anchor plus chain) upwind in the...

Re: Need some help Good people!!

Assuming that you intend using galv shackle, then you can replace the pin with a galv hex head bolt and rust then becomes the poor man's loctite. Also, try get a bolt with the longest possible...

Re: Low friction rings on the main as reef points

Porta Bote shortening

Has anybody out there shortened a Porta Bote?
Is it do-able? I've got a stowage problem which I'm working through.

(I'm thinking only of the later square cornered transom models. Chop the transom...

Re: AGM batteries, PSOC and sulphation

Could those who've observed lower AGM lifespan being a peculiarity of cruising use, could you please confirm if you'd modified your engine alternator charging circuits such that the AGMs are not...

Re: My Volvo D1-30s both limited to 2200 RPMs after alternator install

I have this same motor in my Bavaria.
You mentioned above that you have just 'let' your boat.
Could it be that another renter has run your motors too cold/short and blocked your exhaust elbows? Ive...
