I have a pretty big problem with a bareboat charter setup for 2 weeks from now in Grenada with Dream Yacht Charter (booked through Click & Boat). We made the booking back in Jan knowing that...

We've chartered a few times now but are looking for any wisdom on the best way to split expenses while on the charter. It's obviously easy to split the cost of the boat beforehand since the whole...

Re: Looking for advice on French Polynesia charter

Well noted, thank you. I was indeed expecting that this might be a possibility when going from Bora Bora to Raiatea, or Raiatea to Huahine.

Re: Looking for advice on French Polynesia charter

Re: Looking for advice on French Polynesia charter

Good to hear! We'll have to look more into the Lagoonarium. We didn't go there last year, and we may have a 4yr old with us on this trip, which that seems perfect for.

Not yet! It was great though! Thank you very much for your recommendations! We're heading to the Maldives in a week and a half for our 10yr anniversary and trying to wrap up a lot of work before...

Re: Looking for advice on French Polynesia charter

Thanks for the tips, fxykty! We're certainly not opposed to weather that requires running generator and A/C overnight to be comfortable. Used to that in TX, ha. My wife and I have been to Bora...

Thank you very much! Great write up. Interesting that you went in late Feb / early March. What did you think of the weather in general? I've been reading that La Nina is expected to continue in...

Looking for advice on French Polynesia charter

Off a fresh high from a Lagoon 42 charter in Croatia, we're looking to book our next charter in French Polynesia, specifically the leeward islands (Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora, and Huahine) with a...

Re: Bareboat in the Mediterranean

Thanks again for all of the tips! Makes us feel more comfortable with our plans so far.

For the Blue Grotto/Cave, are you saying that you found a mooring ball near the cave entrance and then just...

Re: Bareboat in the Mediterranean

Awesome, appreciate the offer! Those are all places we're considering for Sept 5-12, so I definitely have a few questions if you don't mind.

We are relatively novice bareboat charter sailors. ...

Re: Bareboat in the Mediterranean

Update: I found other references saying you need a Restricted Radiotelegraph Operators Permit from the FCC, so I was able to pay $70 and got that submitted. Just waiting on approval and will take...

Is anyone able to confirm whether the ASA IPC which states "Endorsements: VHF Radio" is sufficient by itself for Croatia? We are renting with Angelina Yacht Charter and they have said that it is,...

Re: Long term (sabbatical) charter?

I've called 2-3 times and never heard back from the guy in London (I think) who's running the program. Frustrating!

Re: Planning ahead for sailing sabbatical(s)

For those of you recommending a sailing dinghy or <20ft boat to gain more experience, can you provide some suggested brands/models? There seem to be quite a few out there. Most that I'm finding are...

Re: Planning ahead for sailing sabbatical(s)

Thank you both, more great recommendations.

Navigation and VHF/SSB are certainly ones we can work on off the water.

Electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration I think I'm good on. Diesel I...

Re: Scuba Compressor Rental?

I just noticed this company lists "small compressors" as part of their rental equipment:

https://www.tahitidivemanagement.com/dive-equipement

Reaching out to them to find out specifics!

Re: Scuba Compressor Rental?

yeah, that's pretty slow! For a trip to French Polynesia, we were thinking of 8 people on a cat, probably 4-5 divers. Sounds like we need to figure out our stops where they have tank refills for...

100% agree. I didn't mean to say that she would stop learning at ASA 101 previously, but I wasn't sure if I could teach her the rest through experience rather than going through the courses...

Re: Planning ahead for sailing sabbatical(s)

Great story! I think we are a bit more stable in life in general (not trying to really escape anything as the reason for our plans), but glad they have found out how to make it work.

Re: Scuba Compressor Rental?

Ah man, well at least you tried. Crazy that people weren't willing to offer a deposit. I'm definitely willing if someone rents near a place we're going to bareboat charter!

Re: Planning ahead for sailing sabbatical(s)

Great advice. Another reason we plan to bareboat many places before moving forward with this is to figure out where we'd like to spend more time (a lot more time). I think Europe for an extended...
