Watching the patrick laine you tube channel, i saw he used a fuel cell, no solar, wind or generator. This is completely new to me. Has anyone experience with this technology?

Re: Temporary diesel tank

I've done this. Just remember the breather hole. I didn't, and after a couple of hours the plastic container looked like a prune

Re: Cleaning a stain from Vinyl

I'd try acetone and if that damages the vinyl, there are many on line suppliers of self adhesive vinyl patches. Some quite large. Trick will be colour match. Test the acetone on cushion back first

Re: Davits or Hydrovane

You give no details of your boat, nor your area. Davits are ridiculous on a 26 footer, but almost mandatory on a 50 footer

Re: Bird deterrent

I have tried all of the above, plus a fake eagle suspend from from the masthead. Absolutely nothing works. We even see gulls perched on the fake owls.
The only thing that works is netting. Pita...

Re: Center Cockpits: pros and cons

Having owned a South Coast 36 for a few years, it seems to me that the argument come s down to whether you want a comfortable, private aft cabin. Others have stated various cons, let me add...

Re: Check your wet exhaust pipes thoroughly

Checking the elbow is all very well, but the corrosion is on the inside

Re: Where can you work on your own boat in NSW?

Dolphin boatshed at Brooklyn in the Hawkesbury. Used them for decades. Just check mast height for the rail bridge. Their slip is t h e widest in river

Re: excellent wind rose site

Another vote for Windy. Excellent. There used to be hard copy book of wind roses by month compiled from a US navy officer, I think in late 1800s. Just Pacific maybe.

Re: Yacht Delivery Death Traps.

That's an awful lot of boat for an inexperience and incompetent owner to manage. Just thinking about putting in a reef, short handed, has me running away. Will look out for it at the marina. ...

Re: South Atlantic Self-Steering Windvane

Second the Navik sentiment. I loved mine and did thousands of miles in a Triton 26. Tiller steered, not sure how it would do with a wheel

Re: Where do you buy Stugeron?

Can't get it in Oz. Not because it's dangerous but because our small population and over the top Drug compliance etc make it un economic. I get it in Singapore. Any chemist.

Re: Docking cleats installation on concrete seawall, wedge anchors or epoxy or both?

Chemset anchoring compound is great stuff. Used in mining to hold big machinery. Wouldn't get out of bed for the weight of your boat and associated stresses

Re: Whitsunday Islands don’t seem all that great

Hope you have scuba. Anchored in the lee of the islands the wind dies at night and the tide often wraps your chain around the bommies. I also found it a bit under whelming and this was 30 years ago...

Re: Boat purchase test sail, mainly for the Aussies.

So what's wrong with the Swanno? The 42 used to be my dream boat. Fat and slow but wonderful on a passage

Re: Running data cables down binnacle stanchion ... sealed at the bottom?!

Re: Use existing 27 Mhz antenna for AIS receive

I think I now have a grasp of the subject. I propose to chuck the 27mhz antenna, its transom mounted and quite long to go on the arch. When I get the receiver unit I'll try a bit of un shielded coax,...
