Re: Devil of a time trying to figure out what kind of boat to get

Most seem to roll their eyes when I say this, but you should buy the boat you fall in love with. If you don't love it, you won't take care of it.

Re: Can I use oak instead of teak?

Mahogany, Honduran especially, but it is very expensive. It can be hard to find because for import in the US I think it has to come from a sustainable forest. Mahogany over white oak frames is...

Re: What to cook in the oven?

As a bachelor I am a big fan of single dish meals. One of my favs is refried beans & cheese rolled up in a flour tortilla. I have a small casserole dish that is the perfect size for a can of refried...

Re: Butt connectors for #10 stranded wire

I was surprised at how much interest this post generated. The unit has been reinstalled and is working. Here's what happened:

I had originally wanted to use a lever action butt splicer, but...

Re: Battery posts or just a bolt?

My btrys use bolts, some sort of copper or bronze alloy I think. They appear to be the same material as the female connection on the btry. Not easy to find if you lose one or need a different length....

Re: Butt connectors for #10 stranded wire

Thanks to all who offered their help. I'm going to go with the Waga 221s. If it doesn't workout I will go to crimpted splices. It's not going to be a particularly neat set up either way since...

Re: Butt connectors for #10 stranded wire

The Wago style are an improvement on wire nuts, but I need to butt splice 4 wires, each with 3 wires so a connector that lets me connect the wire from the unit to the AC wiring is what I really need....

Re: Re-Running In-Boom reefing lines.

The two leach reefing lines on my boat are also in the boom. You mentioned attaching the messenger line to the existing line. Tape is probably the easiest, but may make the joint too stiff to...

Re: Must a Ship on the High Seas Fly the Flag of a State

Thank you. That's very helpful. I don't see the US Navy being particularly concerned with my welfare either.

Re: Normal to Reduce Offer Post Survey?

I have never understood why one makes an offer before you have a survey. It is nuts to do that then have to go through the hassle of renegotiating.
