Re: Obsessed with anchor snubbers

I have two rubber sealing rings off a stormwater pipe. On my cat I attach them to the bridle with a length of rope and a prussik knot. The rubber rings are then attached to the cleats on the bow over...

Does a chemical exist which will dissolve masking tape but not paint?

I had the same problem. I used green tape instead of blue last anti foul. That green stuff sticks like sh!t to a blanket! I tried goo off, which is mostly acetone so you might as well use acetone,...

Re: South East Asian Sails

I’ve been chatting to them a bit. They are using challenge sail cloth (same as what I’ve been quoted by rolly tasker) and quality thread. Many of them worked with tasker sails in the past. And it is...

South East Asian Sails

Anybody had any sails from these guys? They are based in Thailand and have very reasonably priced sails. Which make me a little suspicious.

Re: Cat Capsize Lake Macquarie

It’s back! Mast is slightly bent but the boat is being fully restored better than new.

Re: Overseas insurance for Australian registered Vessel

I think you’ll find that topsail are now brokers, not insurers, and they are pushing New Wave. Very expensive too.

Re: Insurance exclusion of Australian ports

Topsail no longer are insurers, they are brokers! My renewal was more than twice last years premium. They are trying to insure me with New Wave. I told them to jam it. I already have a quote for less...

Re: Boat Purchase Australia

In NSW it’s just a private contract between you and the seller. Then just change the registration details. No stamp duty. I assume it’s the same with most states. Not sure what the deal is if you are...

Re: Sail too long in the luff

Yeah, after talking to the sail maker and showing him the photos, he agrees with you all. It appears the sail is stretched beyond help. I’ll try a few more things but it looks like I’ll be revamping...

Sail too long in the luff

The battens are pretty stiff. I think the photos are exaggerating the flatness of the leech. I was also experiment with a few things so the shape could be as a result of that. As you can see, I’ve...

Re: Sail too long in the luff

Ok, so this is what I think might be happening. (Sensible corrections or discussion may follow)
The sail is too long in the luff as it appears the factory Seawind 1000 XL has a lower boom. The sail...

Re: Sail too long in the luff

Here are some photos of the sail with a Cunningham on the first reef point. There are some vertical crinkles I’m not happy about.
Still looks too flat towards the leech to me.

Re: Sail too long in the luff

Yeah, tried all those. Hauling up on the top lift helped a bit of shape. The sail is definitely all the way to the top.

Re: Sail too long in the luff

Yeah I will consult with the local sailmaker. I’m sure a fixing point on the leech might help.

Sail too long in the luff

I have a sail off a Seawind 1000xl on my Seawind 1000 (extended to an XL) The sail is too long in the luff as the boom on the factory xl is a little lower on the mast.
I’ve attached the sail on what...

Re: Best drone for sailboats? (solo sailing and under $2k budget)

I have a mavic mini with floats. It can land on water, takes great shots and is inexpensive. Granted it does suffer if the wind is strong but I just don’t fly it then. Being cheaper I suffer less if...

Re: ST50 wind showing boat speed

Checked all the wiring and it all seems correct. Kind of unusual that it would read boat speed at all. I know it communicates with the boat speed instrument to calculate apparent wind, but why would...

Marine insurance and lightning strikes

I noted, after renewing my insurance with Topsail, that they no longer cover for lightning strikes. Are other insurers going this way or is it just Topsail. They are cheaper and very easy to deal...
