Re: Second liveaboard question: aerobic exercise?

Dan, Everything I’ve learned about the compact steppers and peddlers is that they are just too funky for regular use. I read you post and will give it a try. I don’t have a Fitbit, but I think my...

Re: Second liveaboard question: aerobic exercise?

We have no room for an exercise bike but would like to get some aerobic exercise while underway or at anchor. Have you had any experience with the smaller pedal or stepper units? Something like this?...

Re: PNW Winter Cruising Destinations

"Well protected" and "decent cell service" don't always exist in the same place in south sound coves, at least on Verizon. For example, Jarrell Cove is well protected from both weather and cell...

Re: New to the Propane engine market

The Lehr was sooo bad that I fear it's memory will contaminate that market for awhile. There is no reason that a good propane engine cannot be built, but I'd approach with caution and maybe avoid the...

Re: Refrigerator.... What's Wrong?

Like previous post, I suspect the door gasket. CLose the fridge door on a dollar bill and try to pull it out. There should be even resistance as you try this all around the door seal.

Re: What cordless Vac to use aboard

+1 for Dyson and Ryobi here. We use the Dyson for floors. Never had any battery issues. I have several Ryobi 18v tools and they are all good, but not great. Their advantage is the shared batteries.

Re: Who has a vacuum sealer?

We have a Foodsaver that I use a lot for provisioning but we don't carry it on the boat. In addition to freezing our own recipes in dinner portions, I also divide Costco entrees in half and freeze....

Re: Tohatsu 2-stroke dies shortly after running at WOT, hard to restart

As you pointed out above, your fuel line is delaminating internally. Nothing to do but replace it with a good brand. I had the same mystery problem with a smaller Tohatsu and the new fuel line did...

Re: impooving verizon connectivity to work from the boat

No mast -- I'm on a Nordic Tug 37. Antenna is on deck above pilot house. It would probably work much better if at the top of a mast.

Re: Handheld VHF Recommendations

I've had both SH and Icom handhelds. Both are good radios. SH is cheaper. I prefer the menu logic of the Icom. I carry a spare battery for my M93D in my dinghy.

Re: impooving verizon connectivity to work from the boat

I am a Verizon customer and have a Shakespeare SuperHALO cell amp on the boat. It works well to improve a weak signal, but there must be a signal to improve. No matter how much you amplify zero, it...

Re: Macs and Apple Laptops

I just got a newer iPad to replace the older MacBook I was using on the boat. I have a 12v Mac charger that I'll mail to you for $20 (shipping included). It has the older Magsafe connector that is no...

Re: DC Surface Mount socket/plug

Look at plugs used for downriggers. I've used Scotty before and it worked well. Locks in place. High amperage.

Go to Amazon and search for downrigger plugs. There are several to consider.

Re: dinghy davits

I agree with rsn48 regarding Seawise davits. I had Weavers but over time my wife and I realized that one or both of us was going to get wet or hurt hauling the dinghy up and down and then lifting the...

Re: Colour Blindness and Certification

I am significantly red-green color blind and I rely on shapes and numbers to identify buoys. I painted and labeled a paint-stir stick and keep it on the helm to help me keep the colors straight. The...

Re: Dehumidifier?

I live on Puget Sound and sometimes it stops raining here. During winter months, when the boat is closed up, I leave a dehumidifier running. It sits in my galley sink and drains overboard. The model...

Re: Advice on crossing Haro Straight, San Juan Islands

You have lots of good advice above. I second one point about the Port of Sidney. It is a very nice marina, has Customs and easy bus access to Victoria. It is also a lot shorter transit than sailing...

Re: Ultrasonic Antifouling Kit for Boats

I agree with previous posts that they would likely not be of much value on Ferro. Also that their effectiveness may depend on location. That said, I've used CleanAHull ultrasonic transducers with...
