I've got the same decision as to the rebuild on the Perkins 4-154. Boat is a Gulfstar 44, MK II. When I bought it used the old engine had a cracked cylinder head, leaky oil pan, rust-welded and shot...

Barient 21 Stainless winch shaft source?

Hi! I've got a Barient 21 Stainless, non self-tailing main halyard winch. It's mast mounted, and pre 1983. Recently while servicing it I noticed two cracks on the shaft! I've been googling and...

Re: Perkins 4.154 starts immediately, runs great, then knocks off once put into gear.

Thanks all for giving some time & thought to my problem. It turned out that the large inlet (banjo type) bolt on the injector pump had "failed." It's a sleeved fitting and it was junked up, I guess...

Re: Perkins 4.154 starts immediately, runs great, then knocks off once put into gear.

Thanks, Dennis: I pulled out all of the fuel last haul and dumped it in a buddy's old truck, so I've got all fresh now, so that shouldn't be an issue-I should have mentioned that before. The exhaust...

Thanks, Skipmac, I'll try that next. There's a long weekend coming up, and I should be able to spend some time on her-maybe before!

Re: Perkins 4.154 starts immediately, runs great, then knocks off once put into gear.

I dove it just to be sure, and nothing was wrapped around the shaft. How could I verify an air suck?

Then will crank back up, but never take full throttle. I've replaced the fuel supply line and changed the secondary filter (WIX/Napa) and was very conscientious with the o rings and replaced the...

Re: Edson Clutch and throttle control

I had the same problem. There is a small screw on the inside of the pedestal mount on the top of the metal housing. I backed that out & put some SuperLube synthetic machine oil (like 3 in 1) in the...

Re: How often do epoxy barrier coats have to be put on bottoms

What Pete & OneStep say. If the hull isn't dry completely, the barrier coat traps moisture in and can create more problems. Plus, stripping that epoxy off is much harder than getting the gelcoat...

Re: Perkins 4154 Parts Available

I need a head for a 4-154, myself--just found out Tuesday. Thought the gasket was gone, but ended up being a bad head. Valve train looks good, so if anyone knows of a head or bare casting, I could...

Re: Sink supplier?

Oops. Sorry. It's a double bowl. The picture Sand Crab published is identical in every way to ours. It could be ours, except for where the sink is there's only a big hole right now.

Wow! That's interesting that the 1000-watt version had that much power and was able to handle your displacement with ease. I was concerned that the 1500 (1200 watt) or comparable would possibly not...

RC, let me know what you ultimately decide. Our boats are pretty close in displacement (almost identical, really). I'm a month or two off of the purchase decision.
