Re: Virgin Islands to Panama in March?

I know poster is going west, but last year, I had a nice panama to Windward passage sail starting April 28, somewhere around 15 knots for most of it and lower wind after we went past Jamaica. Not...

Re: Universal Joker or Sanimarin replacement

Rob - were you able to find a better solution? I've got two of these things and we've been fighting it for 3 years. We replaced both valves about 9 months ago. One seems to work pretty well actually...

Re: CA tax aggravation - vessel on east coast

So here's my question..

Let's say you get a boat that is newly documented and hasn't been registered in any state (and you're not a resident of CA or similar states). Let's also say your plan...

Re: Fast/reliable vendors that honor their shipping policy?

Thanks for the suggestions. So Vela screwed up too. told me it would ship on Friday when I placed the order at 10 AM (their time). Lo and Behold.. they did not ship on friday because they didn't have...

Re: Fast/reliable vendors that honor their shipping policy?

Nonsense - these old shops with their huge catalogs (yes I agree, it does complicate things) are using antiquated technology. Vela seems to be doing things right - the rate quoting varies with each...

Re: Fast/reliable vendors that honor their shipping policy?

Haha that is too rich. I would cancel on principle. Maybe they think there isn't any competition. You know, it really is easy to succeed in the online retail world. Simply offer three things: 1)...

Re: Fast/reliable vendors that honor their shipping policy?

Thank you! Defender is the one I tried first.. yeah no complaints on the prices.. and I'd even let it slide with shipping because I know that it can be difficult (especially with a large catalog) to...

Fast/reliable vendors that honor their shipping policy?

So I am new to buying marine stuff and have heard that service in general is lacking in this industry. I just had my first bad experience with an online shop.. just trying to get some rope and a fid...

Re: Anti-Capsize Systems.

Why is that? If it's load based (and probably also taking wind angles into account for determining max load), a strong gust from behind or from any angle would still be something it could sense would...

Re: Minimalist boat shoe?

Hah, so you are the judge for this wager? Apologies but I still disagree with you.. and I am firmly against orthotics through my own experience. It's the poor movement habits that we have to...

Re: Minimalist boat shoe?

Perhaps the previous versions were made for climbing and not walking.. but with a proper forefoot strike, barefoot running is a breeze. Many people do not run properly because of their raised heels,...

Re: minimalist boat shoe?

I am a fan of bare feet in general too, and originally that was my plan! But as a newbie on a sailboat, Cheechako's comment makes me take notice

Jim Krause I think I will have to give the Trail...

Minimalist boat shoe?

Hi Can someone recommend a good, quick draining / drying, high-traction boat shoe that doesn't have a significantly raised heel? As in no more than 5mm heel to toe drop. Do they exist?

I am of the...
