Re: Oh no. A thousand bees on the furler

This happened to me too, just yesterday. I think that they are looking for water/food. In the USVI, we have had a drought here for about 5 months.

Just say no...

I was faced with the same condition when I changed carriers a couple of years ago. I pushed back letting them know that I regularly moved my boat single handed. They then added a...

Re: motion sickness in cars implying susceptibility to seasickness?

I'm really surprised that in over 30 posts no one has mentioned the Scopolamine patch. I recommend this for all of my charter guests who have a history of motion sickness. So far we haven't seen any...

Re: Tradition around boat names

I'm surprised no one mentioned the tradition of not renaming a boat (at least without a pagan ritual involved)

Re: Raymarine ST7000 plus spinning me full circle

Like CommodoreDoug, I had experienced the same thing when I stowed a tool box inadvertently in the locker above the compass location.

After finishing your work, did you put any tools in a new spot?

Re: Frigoboat Fridge Issues Help Request

If your not able to resolve the issue yourself, take a short sail over to St Thomas, get a slip in Crown Bay and have Reefco take a look. They helped me out a couple of times with my Frigoboat keel...

Re: Anchoring away from the "anchor" icons

I'd like to add one slightly different slant to the conversation.

Just because you can anchor somewhere, doesn't mean you should anchor somewhere.

Here in the Caribbean, coral has been...

Re: Schoal Keel w/Centerboard Performance

I sail a Bristol 41.1 and do frequently sail upwind. I routinely take charter guests in a circumnavigation of St John which requires short tacking along Sir Francis Drake channel between Tortola and...

Re: Recommend coastal anchorage between Charleston, Georgetown and Beaufort NC?

You can put in at Wrightsville beach, turn right and proceed up Banks Channel, you'll find great anchorages up that way, and a public dingy dock by the base of the bridge.

I'd also recommend the...

Re: NYC to FT Lauderdale in October

I'd advocate for Wilmington NC. It's well up the Cape Fear River, with the air draft you require. Transient slips are affordable and the lively downtown is completely walkable.

Great "off the...

Re: So, like... Bristol 40, 43, 45...

I've been a live aboard, and run term charters, on a Bristol 41.1 Center Cockpit sloop for the past three years.

I've found that the two stateroom, two full head layout has been very comfortable. ...

Re: Is this the difference between Cetol and varnish?

I've been using cetol for years, and am very happy with the finished product and application. I don't sand between coats. Three natural and three gloss does the job, but you need to use a quality,...

Re: Is the 10% rule fact or fiction?

I just opened my maintenance tracking sheet and added up my expenses over the last 6.5 years, averaged that, and divided by the cost I paid for the boat. Came out almost exactly 10%

She is a mid...

Re: Bilge Pump Runs Constantly

As Cadence points out this may be an issue with a check valve.

The position of my bilge pump requires a check valve, when one failed, it exhibited the same symptoms you describe. Have you...

Re: Best Way To Do Lightweight Stanchions/Lifelines These Days?

I've had dynema life lines on my boat for several years now; really love them. They were easy to install, once you do two or three splices and locking stitches, you can do it with your eyes...

1. Being in scheduled calls, meetings and WebEx sessions conflicts with sailing life....

I sail a Bristol 41.1. A couple of years ago I bumped a shoal while crossing a shallow inlet. The centerboard got stuck.

We tried diving on it with tanks, and used a long screw driver as well...

Re: Getting odor out of fresh water system

Once you have the rotten egg smell in the water, I've found that the trick to bleach is to shock the system first with a level that is not potable. Then fully empty the tanks and refill.

Re: Do you ever take your bimini down?
