Re: Powered Catamaran Asvice

I can not provide any advice on a 9 to 11 meter catamaran. My current sailing catamaran is 18 meters. My catamaran is an incredible boat, love her to pieces. She is easy to move. Sometimes it is hard...

Carver... Good? Bad?

I'm doing some research on powerboats and the Carver Yachts brand keeps popping up. Does anyone know about build quality?

I'm also looking at some Offshore Yacht boats... mostly the 54. I like...

Re: Fort Lauderdale to Panama Non-Stop (Route Recommendations)

Non-stop is a requirement, for a number of reasons. So, no stopping.

Thanks for your reply.

But what abut the route? Any recommendations?

Re: Recommendations for best brokerage agency

We worked with Larry from Just Catamarans to buy our boat -- it felt like he would say anything to sell a boat. We got luck with our boat, but he really did not help at all. On top of that, there...

Fort Lauderdale to Panama Non-Stop (Route Recommendations)

We are looking into when we can head to Panama (given the COVID-19 situation). But, it looks like the Panamanian embassy in Washington is still processing pet import permits, so that's a good sign....

Anyone have an Onan Gen w. J1939 (NIM module)?

I installed an Onan network interface module in my 21.5Kw generator. After the install, the generator starts fine from the remote panel inside the boat -- just as it did before.

But I'm not...

Are the MasterBus cables CAT5/6?

I'm just getting ready to connect all my MasterVolt devices, hoping to get them linked together and accessible on my NMEA2000 network via the adapter.

Just curious, are the MasterVolt cables...

Custom Fridge/Freezer Doors - Recommendations?

We have a custom fridge/freezer, and the company that made the doors is out of business (which wouldn't help anyhow). We are having issues with the fridge and freezer maintaining temperature. We've...

Re: A windlass, chain pipe, and stripper are sitting on to a boat...

Glad to hear that we aren't alone. I've been chatting with Lewmar, but their US support is TERRIBLE. I was considering replacing out windlass with a Lewmar V6 -- but give their terrible support, I am...

Re: Onan Generator and NMEA 2000

Ah yes. Programming and configuring.

I'm not a huge fan of Maretron anymore -- and our boat is packed with their stuff. I have a Maretron VDR100, which is a paperweight now, as it eats up USB...

Re: Onan Generator and NMEA 2000

Thanks for your reply.

I'm interested in everything -- current output is probably up there. I'm just keen to keep an eye on data while charging the batteries (and running the generator).

Re: Onan Generator and NMEA 2000

I think I found what I need...

SAE J-1939 CAN data link
Part Number: 0541-1195-03

From there I can take it to NMEA2000

Onan Generator and NMEA 2000

Hey all.

I've got a 21.5MDKBR Onan generator on my boat. There's a remote panel in our salon. I'm trying to see if I can somehow get data from the generator on our NMEA2000 network.

Thoughts?

Re: A windlass, chain pipe, and stripper are sitting on to a boat...

I found out the cause of the issue. It turns out that when the windlass was remounted last year, by MultiTech. The vibration and movement of the boat worked the holes in the thin resin just enough...

Re: A windlass, chain pipe, and stripper are sitting on to a boat...

Oh, I did not know that the gypsy would wear out, but it does make sense that it would. I will replace it when we get to Fort Lauderdale in May -- might as well replace it with something new. I'll...

Re: A windlass, chain pipe, and stripper are sitting on to a boat...

It sounds to me like I should switch over to some 7/16" sized chain for sure. I am not 100% sure that the size of the chain is the cause, but it probably isn't helping the situation!

Here is a...

A windlass, chain pipe, and stripper are sitting on to a boat...

This really should be the start of a good joke, but unfortunately, it isn't.

I'm looking for some thoughts and opinions about our windlass, chain pipe, and stripper issues. Last year, we had to...

Re: Anchors for Catamarans

I know nothing -- but I love our Rocna 55. It resets without us even noticing. Last night, 30 knot wind, rotated 45 degrees in about 20 minutes... no issue (other than me sweating all night).

Re: Is a Leatherman multi-tool worth the extra $$$

I got the "new" Leatherman Free P4 and it was okay while we were still in the marina, but not that we are out cruising, it has become a rust magnet.

Re: Tank liquid level senders

Our WEMA fuel sensor does something similar, and it is brand new. It is really frustrating to see the tank levels drop, while we are at anchor, not using any diesel. -- I hear you!

Alternative to Maretron Data Logger (VDM100)

I installed a Maretron Data Logger (VDM100) a couple of months ago. It worked for a short while but then stopped working -- indicating that there was no USB stick. I contacted Maretron, they told me...
