Thanks for all the suggestions. The mast will rest on the stainless plate. The real reason for using the stainless plate is that it fits - none of the aluminum plates that I found were suitable.

Aluminum Mast & Stainless Deck Plate

I am about to put a stainless deck plate under my aluminum mast. Any ideas how to isolate the aluminum from the stainless? Almost anything I can think of will crush under the weight of the mast.

I removed my diesel tank for cleaning, and notice that fuel is being drawn from the very bottom of the tank. I thought that fuel is commonly drawn from the top via a drop tube that extends to within...

Yanmar Update

I thought I would give an update on this unusual situation.

I tore into the engine. Cylinders looked good. Replaced the rings and bearings, and had a valve job done. Also honed the cylinders....

Water in cylinders

I will do the oil/diesel mix in the cylinders. What ratio of oil and diesel do you recommend? Also, about how much should be put in the cylinders?

I went to the boat last night. The water that is...

Thanks for ithe replies

It would be nice if it was just rainwater. I will check that out. The good news is that this engine has sleeves in the cylinders, which might save it even if it had water in it for some time. I could...

Water in Cylinders - Yanmar 3GM

I am working on a Yanmar 3GM that is freshwater cooled. Upon removal of the air filter, about a pint of rusty water came out. The engine has not been used in almost a year.

I am assuming that the...

I am at Watergate as well, on Pier 16. Were your cruises in the 23 mostly on Galveston Bay?

Hello from Texas

I am fairly new to sailing, and am on my second boat - a San Juan 23. Long range plans include extended cruising on a 30-something foot sailboat somewhere down the road.

For now we sail the San...
