Where to buy panels in South East Asia?

Hey all!

Has anyone had experience buying solar panels/charge controllers in Thailand and want to share? If I can't find a situation (price/quality ratio) that makes me happy then I'll have to get...

Thailand to Malaysia

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Westsail 32. She is in great shape and ready to sail.

My sailing experience is minimal so I'm hoping to find one or two people who have loads of experience and...

Re: 220v to 110v. Where do I start?

I just reread that last bit and thought it might be a bit confusing. I'm living in Malaysia so buying power tools here will not help with my immediate needs as the boat is currently in Thailand. The...

Re: 220v to 110v. Where do I start?

Why are we talking about hair dryers? It's called sunshine :)

I'm with you Capt. Jack. I'm really trying to find a work around to the aircon issue. Living in an apartment is southern Malaysia is...

Re: 220v to 110v. Where do I start?

Thank you! I feel good about understanding the battery charger/inverter system and a victron is a possibility in the future. They seem to have a good reputation.

When you say its own circuit,...

Re: 220v to 110v. Where do I start?

I don't know why I am having such a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of a battery charger. What are some popular brands?

So if I want to run 220/240v on my boat I need to get a...

Re: 220v to 110v. Where do I start?

I feel like you used some Jedi mind tricks there because I don't know what happened.

So your victron converts 240AC to DC? This is gunna sound stupid, but do all sailboat convert AC to DC in...

Re: 220v to 110v. Where do I start?

I believe you mean air conditioner when you say AC. This means that if I split into 2 feeds I could use 1) Shore power -> step down isolation transformer -> house bank -> AC inverter (when needed) 2)...

Re: 220v to 110v. Where do I start?

I have no solar panels at the moment. I'm considering them for cruising but, like others said, hooking up an air con unit to the batteries isn't a great idea.

It sounds like your system converts...

220v to 110v. Where do I start?

Hey all,

I just bought a Westsail 32 that is wired for 110v. I purchased her in Thailand and plan to do some bottom work there before sailing her back to Malaysia, where I live and work, for a...

Re: Blisters, wicking or bubbles?

It difficult to synthesize all the information into a final thought but I feel more confident because of the thoughts and experiences shared.

Hopefully I don't mess this up.

Thanks to everyone!

Re: Blisters, wicking or bubbles?

The PCMS 101 is a nice resource. I've also been able to draw a lot of information from the survey reports.

If only the guy running that website was in Malaysia.

I appreciate the replies!

If it is just water bubbles then the paint must be completely stripped = lower price

If brown liquid that smells like vinegar = resin hydrolysis = walk away

If the...

Re: Blisters, wicking or bubbles?

Exactly! Can’t gaurentee and definitely need to have a look below. The concentration of bubbles increases slightly closer to the water line. That might mean something.

Thanks for your reply!

Blisters, wicking or bubbles?

Re: Best way to buy a boat in a foreign country?

Yes, I think I will have to create a check list for my amateur inspections.
