Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released - Garmin Fantom 18 - Radar

Hi LoopZilla.

Any progress on this?

Fantoms are everywhere now and it seems as if getting this into the plug in would be very beneficial to the community, as older HDs and xHDs are getting...

Re: Signal K and Autopilot

In the end, my solution was to output APB, RMB, RMC and XTE from OpenCPN over TCP (on port 10110, the nmea0183 port) to a port in SK called OCPN which received 0183 into the "seatalkout" port, as...

Re: Questions for Mac users

On my last boat I had a Mac Mini mid-2012 that was maxed out with ram and SSDs. I still have and use it, but it reached its upgrade limit with Catalina. A MacBook Pro of the same vintage was my...

Re: Cheap Tablet for Open CPN

Consider using something like Yacht Devices YDWG-02. Plug in into your N2K network and have easy wireless access for all your separate devices and all your gauges.

Re: Weather routing thinks we can drive over land

Shortening the interval does seem to help, but when I run into this problem, I have solved it by using OpenDraw to create an exclusion zone around the places where I don't want my boat to become a...

Re: ICW tracks by Bob423 anyone?

I haven't tried it, but it shouldn't be an issue to import the tracks and display them on the chart. I just might give that a try. Thanks for the idea...

Re: Can SignalK output all its data on UDP port?

I believe the newer versions of SignalK auto install the UDP Plugin as standard, so setting up that port would be super simple, as it looks like you've already done.

Re: Connecting to NMEA 2000 Network

Never had any issues with mine, however I u destined your concern. The YDEN-02 has a built-in router, so you can have multiple Ethernet device by adding an inexpensive network switch.

Re: Connecting to NMEA 2000 Network

You need some sort of CAN adapter to USB. However, that can be complicated. I also recommend the YDNU-02. Makes getting data into a PC easy and they are much less expensive than the Antisense...

Re: Sailboats 40-46': bed size matters

My Nauticat 43 had a great stateroom and an actual mattress. The Nauticat 44 is even better. I regret mentioning it, though, as I am back in the market. I want first choice and don’t need any buyer...

Re: Best brand for instruments/plotter

I install a lot of chart plotters, mostly on sail boats. Just check each brand’s website and view the different features. Navico brands are currently the most popular in my market. Their units are...

Re: Merging N2K with Simnet

I’d also point out that if you have two power taps on the same battery, you effectively have one power source. You run into issues with one network powered from two different sources, such as two...

Re: NOAA MBTiles

All the NOAA MBTiles are back online. It appears they have transitioned to Vector Charts as MBTiles instead of the old Rasters.

I tried to send Nohal a pull request on GitHub with some changes to...

Re: Radar recommendation

I am a "certified" marine electronics installer. I concur on the Halo. Easy to install. Works well with the plugin and it can easily co-exist on an ethernet network with a B&G chart plotter, OpenCPN,...

Re: Radar Plugin sketchy operation in 5.6.2 MacOS

I installed a Halo20 and OpenCPN on someone's boat using a Mac recently and had this "flakey" window effect. I had never seen it before, but somehow worked it out by just messing with it.

If you...

Have NOAA MBTiles gone away? Nothing downloads from that chart directory anymore.

I don't have access to updates no the google docs. Perhaps I don't have a google account for the email you have on file. I'll set one later.

Re: Seeking "Willy's Jeep" of Bluewater Monohulls

I second the Westsail 32 opinion. I had one for 25 years and you just couldn't break it if you wanted to. Get one with "the upgrades" - no teak decks and minimal topside wood, stainless bowsprit and...

Volunteer Plugin Testers Needed!!

Rick,

Besides my macs, I have a an extra RPi4 with an Openplotter installation that I can test on, if that helps. I believe it’s Debian Buster based.

I’ll try to find some time to boot it up...

Weatherfax_pi Recievers: RtlSDR + SSB radios

This is an exciting thread. Unfortunately, even though I’m a certified marine electronics installer, I’ve never had a good grasp at SSB or Ham radio concepts.

I’ve discussed this in various thread...

Scratch that. Issue seemed fixed, but has resurfaced after relaunching the app a couple times. Is now persistant again.

Re: OCPN Draw 1.4 available

Yes, fixed. No crash in 1.8.15.3. Tried 1.8.15.4 and the crash is back.
