Re: Bifacial 550W and above panels?

We had 60+ mph winds here two weeks ago and the framing and panels held ok.
It’s a 16.5 foot beam - so hopefully we can make it through the canal :-)

Re: Bifacial 550W and above panels?

Each of the Renogy 550w panels uses its own Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/50.

The other 5 smaller panels (770watts total, also all bifacial) share the 5th Victron 100/50 in parallel.

Re: Bifacial 550W and above panels?

I have four of the 550 watt Renogy bifacial panels installed (see linked video). I reinforced the four anchor points with short aluminum bars in the frame.

Minus one failure (where panel...

Re: Modern lithium setup for boats

Excellent post SV Jedi - thanks!

Here’s a lower cost option I’m trying out along the SV Jedi design lines but missing some of the more expensive components.
This just installed on my monohull...

Re: Head problems, long story

One potential option for clogged hoses (much easier than removal and replacement) is to fill and soak them in-situ with hydrochloric acid HCL (aka Muriatic acid, found in the swimming pool chemicals...

Adding Solar - LiFePO4 to supplement AGM bank?

To add a different perspective here: s/v Jedi is of course right about the different preferences of each chemistry: AGM prefers being held full via float charge while LFP prefers partial charge. ...

Re: Adding Solar - LiFePO4 to supplement AGM bank?

The internal resistance of LiFePo4 is so much more smaller than for AGMs, particularly so when approaching full charge. While AGMs require an extended "acceptance" phase charge (a long period where...

Re: Adding Solar - LiFePO4 to supplement AGM bank?

I implemented a similar system, but without the dc-dc charger. The drop-in lifepo4 batteries (2x120 Ahrs) are intentionally directly parallel-attached to the AGMs (5x250Ahrs) via a circuit breaker,...

Re: Orca Rudder Attacks: Solution

Good to see [emoji106] Similar to what electric eels do to discourage predators. From first hand experience with an eel in the wild - it’s effective.
Eventually some boats operating in that area...

Re: Orca Rudder Attacks: Solution

Wondering why it seems no one has thought of an “electrical” solution to this issue. A mild intermittent shock therapy carefully controlled and manually administered via two wires trailing aft of...

S/V Jedi: interesting analysis and food for thought here (re: series being better than parallel). But doesn’t the quoted scenario above ignore the fact that the parallel panels are connected to an...

Re: Starlink Maritime now starting at $250/month

Respectfully I don’t quite agree with you here wholybee. For a good portion of the market they are in direct competition, with Starlink having a huge upper hand in value for money.

Starlink may...

Re: To remove or not to remove that is the question

I’ve found that unused well-installed thru hulls like that can come in very useful much later down the line for installing additional equipment such as air conditioners, water maker, extra bilge...

You may also want to take a look at the Velair, also from Italy, similar to the Frigomar but less expensive.

Re: Test Results: Starlink on a Sailboat Underway

Agree with Ramalkin and Spindift. Rob Eberle has done two boats for me @ Oriental. Highly recommended.

Re: Raymarine Tech Support is Closed - Hydraulic AP Pump Bleeding?

The more I look at your install photo the more convinced I am that simply swapping your reservoir line connection would solve the issue.

Here’s the diagram for that pump. I would suggest...

Raymarine Tech Support is Closed - Hydraulic AP Pump Bleeding?

One thought:
One way to avoid that uphill run is to install a small ledge (instead of the pump) on that bulkhead and then install the pump horizontally on the ledge. Looks like you have the room...

Re: Raymarine Tech Support is Closed - Hydraulic AP Pump Bleeding?

I would heft a well charged 12v battery to right beside the pump and directly connect it to test or eliminate this possibility.

One suggestion(a messy one howbeit): since the rest of your...

Re: Raymarine Tech Support is Closed - Hydraulic AP Pump Bleeding?

Chotu,

From what little I can glean from your install photo it seems to me your reservoir line into your autopilot pump (the 3rd connection) may have some downhill run sections, which may cause...

For this same reasoning I went with the 12v DC SeaWater Pro. I also do carry an extra boost pump.

Re: Test Results: Starlink on a Sailboat Underway

Interesting idea. In some ways that is what Starlink already is. I think however leaving the backhaul to 3rd party vendors would be leaving too much on the table, being such a critical piece of...

Re: Adding alarm to bilge pump circuit

These inexpensive alarms (~ $7 each on Amazon) can be used as high water alarms. Easy to adjust sensor height, multiple units can be used if you have multiple separate bilges.

Instapark Water...
