Since it sounds like the damage was not caused by his negligence, (channel not marked) and he was moving it for you (not borrowing it for his pleasure) I would say that it is your boat, your cost.

I was going to expand on the fuel tank sealing method and let you know that stuff, when applied correctly, is very strong and flexible. (I suspect that Ecos and I have done some similar work...

No offence taken but it is an approved and common fix for all USAF aircraft. Fixes small leaks until the aircraft can be scheduled down for a permanent fix.

This is what I used to temp fix aircraft fuel tanks. Works pretty well and will last quite a while. some of the fuel tanks we used it on were even pressurized to 6-8 psi and it would hold.
