Re: Prop Shaft/Cutlass Bearing Clearance Tolerances

.003 seems more than acceptable since that works out to one and a half thou. per side ( about the thickness of a piece of paper).

Re: Tohatsu 3.5 no power

If the engine revs in neutral it is not likely the high speed jet. Check the off idle ports with a small piece tag wire if you don't have access to compressed air as a small speck of dirt will...

Re: Am I being cheap and/or stupid?

Evinrude made a model called Sailmaster for that very reason. As far as using the tiller handle on the OB to steer, the problem is generally the clearance between the out board tiller handle and the...

Re: Vulcan Anchors by Canada Metal Products

Looking at them on the website they look impressive. The curve in the shank looks like it would be easy to break out when upping anchor but it may require a long scope initially to get a fairly...

re: Generator Starter Problem

After sitting for any length of time the electrical connections may have corroded. Short of doing a voltage drop test you should clean the connections relating to the starting circuit.

Re: Problems with new injection pump

Re: Sensor alarm going off

Your drive may need to have a low water pickup if the leg is coming too far out of the water when up on plane. Look over the transom to see where the leg is provided it is not under a swim platform.

Re: Winterizing - must I change my oil?

I wouldn't. Lube oil for diesels contains a base designed to neutralise the acid formed in the crankcase. With so few hours there is still plenty of neutralising comound in the oil.

Re: Adjusting Valve Clearances on a Diesel Engine

Unless the engine is hot you can bar it over slowly with little danger of it starting. Loosening the injector lines prevents build of raw fuel in the cylinders as you bar it over. It makes for a less...

Re: Adjusting Valve Clearances on a Diesel Engine

Re: Adjusting Valve Clearances on a Diesel Engine

If you divide 720 degrees by the number of cylliders it will give you the number of degrees you need to rotate the engine to bring the next cylinder to TDC. Check for valve rock on the cylinder to...

Re: Just Bought a Sailing Dinghy...I need Advice

It is essential that you have sails you can control or you could wind up in the drink. Put a stout tether on your rudder so it won't disappear in your wake if it comes off. Three stays means no back...
