Re: For all promoting flare guns for self defense
I have a high power hunting sling shot with 0.5 inch steel balls. At close range that thing will cause some damage and I may be wrong, but I think it may be legal almost everywhere. |

Re: Maximum effort VHF on cruising boat, dinghy, and handhelds
VHF is strictly line of site. That means the higher the antenna the further you can transmit and receive. |

Re: Non-firearm weapons on board.
When I did the Great Loop solo, I took along a high power hunting sling shot with a supply of 1/2" steel balls. At close range that thing would do some damage and hopefully make the attacker rethink. |

Re: Paracord- what is it good for?

Re: Loop Boat - Narrowing the search
If you can fine one, I recommend the Atlas Acadia 32. I did the loop on one of those and I am 6'6" tall. Plenty of head room. Single Yanmar diesel, 2X100 gallon fuel tanks, autopilot, bow thruster,... |

Re: What Makes a Good Barometer?
Martkimwhat is absolutely correct. All barometers require a light tap of of a finger nail to make them move, expensive or cheap, I always give my baro a tap before reading it. |

Re: What Makes a Good Barometer?
Get a cheap one. The actual reading does not matter, what you want to see is if its rising or falling. |
