Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

hey everyone - update.

Just got back to shore from the mooring. I pulled the pickup tube from the tank, no screen and not blocked. The pipe had a lot of crud on the outside of it; cleaned it up...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

Thanks - my thoughts on the pump/governor, too. I did not ultimately pull apart the screen/pump. It will be a bigger project..combination of awkward location and really old fuel hose. Good to...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

I couldn't get out there today (now she's on my mooring) but will head out tomorrow. Checking the filter is on the agenda.

I haven't gotten a diesel service return call from the message I left...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

Hm. That's an interesting point. If I'm getting a stream of fuel out of the Knurled Nut (I have a nut, not a knob) where it should not be, and NOT getting it out of the pipes further down the line,...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

it turned out that 2g was added to probably 8-9g. It's just that at the time of adding we weren't sure how much fuel was in it.

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

Ha - I have zero intention of pulling the pump apart and rebuilding. If it were bolt-on/swap, that would be different.

The lift pump -seems- to be working well...it definitely spurts from the...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

thanks, everyone. I did try with the throttle wide open, and got some drips of fuel. She attempted to start...caught a little bit, but didn't run.

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

Quick update/question....

Disconnected nut on fuel above the injector, stop lever in GO position, crank motor. NO fuel coming out of pipe. Or does it require a -lot- of cranking?

Injector...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

Putting it all together overnight. I was literally falling asleep and thought 'Duh! THAT'S why there's no fuel at the injector pipe...little electric fuel pump isn't going to push fuel through the...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

thanks, Stu! I did search on the wiki. Ended up finding tests, and scherzoja above posted similar.

Loaded up the car with a charged 12v and jumper cables just in case.

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

I learned that earlier tonight! I was thrown off, I guess, by the pipes' and nuts' appearance similar (but backwards) to the old Volvo in my last (um....still in the yard) boat. I get it now. ...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

Thanks, Stu - I came across your posts/comments quite often in my research for. this issue, and did find myself going through the C34 wiki.

I'm not even sure -how- one could crack the middle...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

Ok!

Fuel flow at the Knurled Nut....circled in gold. NO fuel at the cracked/disconnected nut on the pipe, circled in red.

Is there another pump in that housing? It’s already pretty high...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

thanks for the tip about the glow plugs...motor was starting fine before this, so I wonder if a glow plug failure can be sudden like that? I'd think they'd just take longer and longer to warm up.....

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

yup, the knob is the 'knurled nut' I refer to. -Should- be almost automatic! But, not this time, I guess.

I have to look at the bracket...the boat's a 1990, but it was apparently repowered in...

Re: Universal 25XP not starting...bleeding?

that's a great tip on the compression lever - lowering the resistance will reduce power used to crank. I will take a look at cracking the injector nuts further down the fuel system.

thanks!

Volvo MD7A not starting - fuel pump?

Hello everyone -

a couple of weeks ago, my MD7A would not start. It had run fine for a month or so (after a fuel saga and successful filter replacement and bleed), but one day heading out for a...

excellent! I worry a bit about the huge mainsail vs a more balanced rig. Two reefing lines are set up nicely, and there's the mainsail management system, so that's good. But the boom seems too...

Catalina 30 (1990) or Ericson 30 Plus (1984)? And why?

Both boats are in comparable shape, well-maintained, invested owners, outfitted similarly...

Use will be daysails in the Bay and...
