Re: Buying new. Am I crazy?

I weighed a very similar decision 3-4 years ago and we ended up buying new as our first 'full-size' (:)) boat - which is arriving imminently for this coming sailing season. It was a close thing, but...

Re: The new Renogy 450W bifacial panels arrived!

This is a great example and thread, especially as we are in the final months of acquiring our catamaran and trying to figure some of this out for ourselves. Not to derail the topic, but could you...

Re: Isla 40 Thoughts/Suggestions for us?

Hi there,

We're still a good 18 months out of delivery, but we visited two hulls that are currently in use and talked to the owners (although one was owned by the dealer so may be a touch biased)...

Isla 40 Thoughts/Suggestions for us?

Hi everyone,

We are getting close to the purchase of a new Isla 40 for 2024 delivery, and were curious if anyone here has sailed one, or has suggestions on factory options that are good / poor...

Re: Options to minimize heeling?

Thank you everyone for the great comments and feedback. I haven't had a chance to respond individually to each, but I've read them all and it's been a great help. I haven't directed her to this...

Re: Options to minimize heeling?

Agreed, for sure - unfortunately we signed up for a club for the summer before we realized the issue :) We're going to take the opportunity while we can, learn the line handling and getting in and...

Re: Options to minimize heeling?

Thanks everyone, this is great info.

We're definitely on board with early reefing - I haven't had occasion to experiment with the travelers yet so I wasn't aware that could help us out. We're...

Re: Options to minimize heeling?

Thank you both, that's great to know - Peregrine, we were in the same boat and are struggling with a very similar experience for our 103 class!

I have absolutely no problem with early reefing,...

Options to minimize heeling?

Hi everyone (this may be a silly / newb question, so apologies in advance.)

My wife and I have taken our 101 and 103 classes and are enjoying sailing about this summer, learning and gaining...

Re: Being more positive on CF

As someone who is only on year 1 of 4 towards actual sailboat ownership, I think the forum has been pretty useful and I appreciate the comments that I've received. It is a difficult thing looking at...

Re: Personal Gear to bring for charters

Thanks everyone, this is a great list. Many things on here that didn't occur to me. GPS, VHF, and PFD's are more in line of future cruising as well - better to get quality gear now than replace it...

Yes it is!

Thanks, these are great suggestions, adding them to the list. First Aid kit especially.

Personal Gear to bring for charters

This year, my wife and I will be taking our ASA classes and getting out of the water. The company that teaches the classes also lets us join a boat club where we can take their boats out for the rest...

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I am a wannabee! We have a few-year plan ahead of us, and will likely never reach full-time cruising status, but I have every intention of growing into a boat that I can spend most of the summers on....

Re: Mobile nav / location setup

Great, thanks. I know that there is a GPS antenna in there, but I wasn't sure if it worked once I was out of cell range.

Is there a preferred app or set of apps, or do they all show sort of the...

Mobile nav / location setup

Good morning -

Sorry for what may be basic questions -

• If I bought an iPad or similar tablet to use as a personal chart / nav system, would it need to connect to a boats antenna or is the...

Costa Rica / Panama charts

Hi everyone -

I'm going on a small boat cruise next week in Costa Rica and Panama, and was looking for a chart that I could use to follow our adventures in my cabin. Can anyone point me towards a...

Re: Separate head / shower layouts?

Thanks for all the suggestions, appreciated. We have been reluctant to look too much larger than 36 just from a handling and affordability standpoint, but we may keep a few larger boats on the...

Separate head / shower layouts?

My wife and I are working through the process of narrowing down the huge variety of 30-35 coastal cruisers available, with the goal of purchasing a 'new to us' boat in early 2020-ish. At a local boat...

Re: ASA classes around Boston MA

Thanks - that looks pretty interesting, I'm going to reach out to them.

Do you know if they provide any of the other ASA classes? I'd like to work up to 103/104 in the next few years, getting some...

ASA classes around Boston MA

Good morning!

I'm looking for recommendations on ASA classes in the Boston area - I've done some sailing of small boats when I was younger, but nothing significant and most of that was just...
