Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

That's really quite common. Read a few accounts of airplane crash survivors and you'll find stories of people who are unhurt or have only minor injuries when the plane comes to a stop, but just sit...

Re: Shy Cruising or don't invite me to the Potluck :)

Re: Shy Cruising or don't invite me to the Potluck :)

I've skimmed through most of this thread, and would like to add a couple of thoughts:

First, being introverted isn't a disease or condition that needs to be cured, it's not the same thing as...

Re: New Web Site

I really wouldn't worry about it much. The scrolling isn't really a big issue.

The map is definitely a great feature. That's worth repeating.

Anything interactive is usually a plus, so long...

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

There's an awful lot of truth in that.

Many years ago I was out sailing on a < 20' dingy with a friend. She had spent easily several hundred hours in this boat. One afternoon we capsized. She...

Re: The $100,000 80hp outboard

This new green technology stuff is amazing. The next thing you know, we'll be using wind to power our boats.

Re: Important things we don't talk about much

RE: Beer

Saw some good advice on facebook the other day. To paraphrase: Don't eat or drink anything that has a TV commercial.

I've had decent beer all over the country. I ask what dark beers...

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

I haven't read all 27 pages of posts on this thread, so my apologies if this has already been beaten to death.

In nearly any movie, Hollywood glosses over details and gets almost nothing right...

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

Here's my last point on this:

Be careful taking up as an occupation something you do for fun. Years ago, I was an avid hobbyist photographer. Following the "do something you love" theory, I went...

Tech Whatever
If this work were easy, people wouldn't be paying well for it. Unless you're already a skilled developer, you're not going to become one dabbling at it part time or taking a freebie...

Photography/Video
Stock agencies don't want to talk to you unless you have thousands of photos to submit, and they're all top quality. They don't want your three dozen nice beach or sunset shots....

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

Not to throw cold water on everyone's dreams, but I'll offer a reality check on a couple of suggestions I've seen, because it seems like what everyone is looking for is a way to make money without...

Re: Finding a new lover

I'm wondering what this thread would look like if she were chatting with some non-boating friends. I'll just speculate about some details:

I've been seeing this guy for a couple of years and he...

Re: What to look out for when crewing on someones yacht over blue seas??

I haven't a clue if this guy or his boat are ready, but I'll throw in my two cents anyway. You're asking people here if they think he's ready and if this will work. To me, the fact that you're asking...

That sounds suspiciously like cold war propaganda. I'd have to see credible references for it before I'd believe it. The Russion navy is a child of most of the same seafaring traditions as the rest...

Well, at least it got wet once. There's a boat sitting in a yard in sight of a major highway near my home. The thing has been sitting there for years without moving.

My instructor gave me this one in flight school. It works just as well for nav lights on boats:

Red, right, wrong.

It's weird, but it works. Red is on the left, so red on the right is wrong.
