Re: YouTube Sailors - Overly Romanticized Or Just Lacking Details?

So first let me define me, I am a dreamer at this moment. I have been now for over ten years. I have sailed a lot in that time but would not define myself as anything near a cruiser (yet, lol)....

Re: “Why Most Published Research Findings Are False”

The difference between a scientist and an engineer is knowing when something is good enough. I proudly proclaim I am not a scientist! I am an engineer. I once thought doing research was the course...

Re: “Why Most Published Research Findings Are False”

This topic is interesting. I love the opinion bombs we are getting in here. Especially the ones who try to drive a political narrative about something they BELIEVE. I.E. the right believes something...

Re: Million dollar catamarans

Couldn't agree more. Money is only a little more than a tool. It should be working for you. I am a huge fan of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". I sailed the Caribbean with a couple and their young daughter for...

Re: Is Singlehanding >24 Hrs. Morally Wrong?

With the right preparation no it's not morally questionable. If you have the right lights, equipment and understand where your at than I say no way. If you are going through shipping channels and...

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

I completely agree. People love to pile on because it is easy to judge and criticize people (even more so behind a desk or on a sofa). I have realized no matter the topic people love to sofa QB but...

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

Well I guess it's easy to pile on the criticism. They obviously made some mistakes. They lost 5-10k. That sucks yes, but recoverable especially in your 20's. They def watch themselves some youtube...

Re: Plan on Selling the Ugly Duckling Soon.

Sorry the deal didn't workout! However it sounds the a GREAT surveyor. I would want him to nit pick every inch of a boat I am about to buy. That is why people pay a stupid amount of money for a...

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

I took a look a your blog. Nice boat, I had the chance to sail on an Oyster named Britican from St. Thomas to Florida. I think I saw Simon in one of your pictures. Looks like you know them! Great...

Re: Info on Beneteau Moorings 38

Also, that jib is not going to be cheap. Not sure it's condition but I am sure a 17 year old sail that has been used will be near stretched bed sheet status.

Re: Info on Beneteau Moorings 38

I can't speak to the boat capabilities, but I do recommend you get a person out to quote you for the repairs. I feel the 10K for all new rigging and a new furling system seems cheap. I could be wrong...

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

I had the chance to hangout with the Delos crew in South Africa, even had my 1 second of fame in a video. In my own opinion, they are anything but fake. Brian is just awesome, talking to him helped...

Re: Antares 44 vs Helia 44 - help us decide?

You have some mean friends if they are trying to get you into a Gunboat. I know they were just purchased, but they have yet to prove themselves after the whole crappy China issue they had. Can't...

Re: Southern cross in serious trouble

I am glad this guy is safe and sound. Hope he gets his boat but I can't imagine that his boat would be recoverable after slamming into rocks so bad he was forced to swim an hour.

As a side note,...

Re: 8 years of cost data

What? Cruising cost money? I thought I could just live off the sea and collect water using trash bags and condensate. Your saying that's not true, that I have to budget?

Seriously, thank you...

Re: TWO WIND GENERATORS

I think it really depends, on how you can set up the solar panels. My guess is that you would be better off going solar. If it was me I wouldn't put two turbines on because of the noise, they WILL be...

Re: Making Offers

That's great information. Yea, I am not in a hurry to buy a new to me boat, at least not a cruiser, maybe a j70, viper or melges but there is some time before I make that dream boat happen.

I was born and raised in Dublin Ohio, left for 4 years while I was in the navy just to return after. I stayed there for about 3 years then jetted to CT. I learned to sail there by purchasing a boat...

Re: Caribbean Safety and Security Net

I wouldn't say I would rave about the Panama Canal but I guess as an engineer I would probably get a little geeked out seeing it all function and watching the process. The history of how it was built...
