Re: Google Fi Phone

With a Shakespeare booster, I can still get a signal up to 12 miles off shore. Usually can't receive calls, but texts and messaging works fine.

Re: Early 401K withdraw for ACA

Re: What would you buy?

We were in a similar situation. We moved aboard last November, travelled to southern FL and then crossed to the Bahamas where we spent 3 or 4 months. If you're going to anchor out, you MUST have a...

Re: Better and worse dog life jackets

Agree with Ruffwear. We bought ours over the internet using their sizing guide for our Jack Russell Terrier. Love the handle. Easy to get him on and off the dinghy (if he doesn't jump himself). ...

Re: Sick of our 4108 Perkins need suggestions

^^^^^THIS

Our engine kept cutting out often. Air was getting in somewhere. The higher the rpms, the worse it would be. We replaced the body housing as well as put in new fuel lines and clamps. ...

Re: Charleston...must see...moorings...etc

We stayed at the Charleston Maritime Center. No need for a shuttle; you can walk to downtown Charleston. They just reopened. New floating docks. Free laundry.

Our favorite restaurant is Amen....

Re: Are Power Boaters Clueless

We were heading north on the ICW about 10 miles north of Fort Pierce, I think. This was probably 3 - 4 weeks ago. We heard a boat being hailed and asked repeatedly to slow down to pass. The boat...

Re: Reasonable Payload for a 40' Mono

Look, this is all too technical for me, but I can only say that when the Captain added the extra batteries for solar, the tower, our dinghy, etc, to the ass end of our boat, our waterline sank,...

Re: iPad Navigation Using SEAiq App (User Reviews)

Maybe I am missing something.

I don't understand all the iPad/tablet or phone use of electronics? I guess it depends on the boat, but in our boat, we don't have a fully enclosed cockpit. None of...

Re: Unwarranted search

When we sailed out of St. Simons Island, we've been boarded numerous times by the USCG. For no other reason than we're usually the only sailboat out there at any given time because NOBODY day sails...

Re: Docking Interactions, or "Get Outta The Way, The Witch Is Here!"

We've encountered "useless" help as well when tying up. We almost always marina hop and we've found that even marina dock hands don't know how to tie up. We still use them, but we've encountered...

Re: ICW - Hell's Gate

I have to say, aside from being a Nervous Nellie about Hell's Gate (or Hell Gate or Hells Gate), you are right, it was a BEAUTIFUL trip. Very peaceful with almost no wind. It was a lovely day.

Re: ICW - Hell's Gate

It ended up being a non-event. I wish I didn't get so worked up over these things. We hit it right at or close to high tide. Pretty much followed the magenta line and watched our location in...

Re: ICW - Hell's Gate

Thanks, everyone. Truly appreciate the info. And yes, Hell's Gate in Georgia is what I was talking about. We should be there right before high tide so with any luck, no groundings. I'm feeling...
