Re: Troubleshooting Vacuflush

If you can feel the pump sucking, the bowl is not leaking water, the new duckbills each side are pointing in the direction of flow and there are no other leaks from pipes or tank, vacuum in the...

Re: Long-Distance WiFi Device

Totally agree. I spent seven years in the Caribbean, also using a Bullet. I imagine phone providers have improved the situation a little but it's interesting to know by not much.

1) Are you sure the BNC input plug is wired correctly with no short between outer shell and centre pin.

2) Is the NMEA 0183 feed at 4800 baud?

3) Can you...

Re: Troubleshooting Vacuflush

Duckbill valves will probably fix the problem but use double hose clips back to back with 180° offset on connections each side of pump. Warm hose with hairdryer before tightening.

Re: Running a laptop without an inverter

I think he was referring to the fact that his latest laptop wouldn't run on straight 12 volts unlike his previous.

Re: Running a laptop without an inverter

DC is DC yes but your laptop will require a specific voltage usually above the nominal 12 volts available on your boat.

Walmart among others offer DC-DC laptop chargers with variety of power...

Re: Why Connect SSB Direct to House Battery?

Bottom line the average control panel won't take the necessary 30 amps or so required by a fully modulated 150 watt rig.

Connect therefore fused lead direct to batteries or adjacent high current...

Re: Icom 802M GPS with Raymarine

From a safety point of view you should be feeding your DSC equipment directly from a GPS source. This would give you the required GGA sentence with $GP prefix.

NMEA v2.0 or 3.0 is not an issue...

Re: Smart phones

The cell tower requirement is just to assist the built in GPS receiver (aGPS). There is often a webserver option as well. In each case satellite almanac data is uploaded locally to speed up fix. If...

Re: Long-Distance WiFi Device

I think the main differences in using a Bullet 2HP & M2HP (specs aside) are generic & not attributable to the devices as such. 802.11n devices can work in three modes:
greenfield - pure 802.11n, no...

Mike the lack of change in "perceived" signal strength is probably being masked by AGC circuitry which is fooling you into making false statements.

As a another radio HAM of 45 years standing I...

Toughbooks & the like are fine but start out with conservative specs. You soon end up with a machine that works faultlessly but is way out of date.

For the same money you could buy a couple of top...
