Re: How many spare ropes are enough?

We ducked into Shelter Cove to weather hurricane Mathew. After all, Hilton Head had not had a hurricane in forever. 42' GB, on a face dock. We had 12 lines. Used every one. She came through without a...

Re: Why do we not see open array radar antennas on sailboats?

Ok, not a sailor - but on our 42' trawler with a Garmin 18" round xHD mounted 22' above the water, I cannot imagine needing more. It picks out crab pots, I tracked 3 pelicans parallelling us 3 miles...

Re: Cape lookout rescue

We sold Shangri-La in May of this year. We did ride out Mathew in Hilton Head, Dorian here in Beaufort and Eieio here as well. Also, many tropical blows over 6 years.

Re: Cape lookout rescue

We live in Beaufort and have been visiting this area for 7 years on our 42' trawler. Cape Lookout bight is a very safe anchorage in a storm. On occassion, some of the big shrimp boats will anchor...

Re: USCG Six Pack license sea time fraud

Having just sat for my Masters license, I'm thinking the six pack is no longer the same as Masters. I had several sections to do, taking nearly the entire day.

The six pack guys had one. They were...

Re: Use Gasket sealant on new gaskets?

+1 on the Aviation product. Let it set up a bit before installing. Also works well on threaded fittings where you just can't seem to get a seal. Impervious to most stuff on boats.

Re: Chainplate how bad ?

At the risk of topic creep, I find this question extremely relevant. After reading volumes about bedding, sealing hardware screws, etc. all out of SS, how does the oxygen starvation scenario come...

Re: Time Keeps Slipping Away...

"What's a cleat?" she asked as we slid an old refurbished runabout down the ramp for sea trials. We'd already put a PA on Shangri-La. We just did it. Sold it all. It's just stuff. Being handy...

Re: Help us before my husband throws our Mercury outboard in the water!

I admit, I haven't read every entry on this post, so apologies if this has come up. You need fuel, air and spark. Seems like the air issue hasn't been mentioned. I've had spider nests and once...

Re: Here's one for Peggy - bladder holding tank

"All that said...it's what's on the boat, apparently good quality and in excellent condition, so I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker. Use it till all the other upgrades, replacements and repairs you...

Re: Before you set sail, how did you eliminate all your STUFF?

Met in December '15. Bought Shangri-La in April '16 during which we got rid of two households and a vehicle. Moved on in May. Our 5x8 shed with what we thought was important - will be emptied this...

Re: Looking For A Home

Caution - thread creep. . .thank you sir. We're at the front of the pack, up in Lake Erie pinned down by this #%$! wind. We certainly will be spending time in your area.

Re: fixing a weeping fuel line from a full diesel tank

Possibly Silicone Rescue tape? I keep rolls of it on board. It seals to itself and withstands most any fluid and temp extremes. Had it on a water hose 75+PSI and actually forgot about it. Not sure...

Re: Microwave and Inverter don't play together well

You have to be the owner (victim) of an out of control, IMAX 8 channel sound system based unlocked imagination to see what I'm seeing right now. . . :nonono:

Re: Best UV resistant sealant/caulk ?

We have original Sikaflex on our 28 year old teak decks. Still flexible. Having done some touch up I found it also sticks to anything, plastic (sunglasses), blue jeans, leather (wallet), aluminum...

Re: How do you get out of tight berth when the wind is blowing?

Or like me, pick marinas that have pilings at the end of the docks.

They call me the Pole Dancer.

Re: Holding plate freezer 12v recommendations

The running on of the compressor we experienced with our new SeaFrost was due to loss of refrigerant on a loose fitting. Once it was sealed and recharged our compressor barely runs. Now in the vein...
