Re: Leaving Uk for the Med in Aug/Sep?

I Dave,

We did a similar trip last year but left in May and still only just got to Portimao in time for some warm weather! Our boat is a slow old overladen HT though - I'm sure yours is faster....

Re: HOW TO MAKE MONEY WHILE SAILING?

Hi Doc,

We did a video recently on this exact subject - we've managed pretty well so far and have been earning more than our budget consistently. I'd agree with others though that earning a...

Re: Vlogging, Atlantic Crossing 2016 and upcoming 2017

Yep, working on the 4th at the moment, while we're holed up in Peniche. The fog in Portugal has been a bit of a pain, and keeps stopping us in our tracks.

Re: Vlogging, Atlantic Crossing 2016 and upcoming 2017

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the good wishes! Yep, we bought the boat for £9.5k - the previous owner had repainted her so she's pretty good looking :)

We also did quite a lot of work ourselves,...

Re: Vlogging, Atlantic Crossing 2016 and upcoming 2017

Thanks for mentioning our YouTube vlogs! We hope you guys enjoy them.

You got it right - we have no vices, don't eat out, mainly drink canned beer, etc. We've never stayed in a marina and don't...

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

Hi guys,

It's almost certainly not the best on youtube, but we've just started our video channel, and we've got a blog up, available here:

Re: Chair, Harness, or Ladder?

We use a climbing harness because I climb a halyard (using a petzl shunt and a wild country ropeman) and Elena belays me on another halyard as a safety backup. We've both done a fair bit of climbing...

Re: Updating interior of older catamaran

Hi John,

We're just doing this on our catamaran, a Heavenly Twins. The previous owner had glued carpet everywhere to act as a kind of wall covering. We've stripped it off, and are cutting out...

Re: Best way to get experience?

Hi Drifting Gypsy!

I think trying to get experience every way you can is ideal - from racing dinghies, to cruising with your buddy, and getting on the crew wanted sections of this site and...

Re: Hello - Young(ish) couple sailing from the UK to the Med

Thanks Steady! Yep, we'll keep you guys updated as best we can. Starting to get a bit itchy to get out there, but there are pre-start projects to be done, and good weather to wait for!

Re: Hello - Young(ish) couple sailing from the UK to the Med

Ah I see. The reason I asked about Terrapin is that the guy who took it across to the US wrote a book about it, so I wondered if it was the same boat.

Rhode Island to Puerto Rico is quite an...

Re: Hello - Young(ish) couple sailing from the UK to the Med

Thanks Barnkeil!

Yep, should be a great adventure, we just don't know how far we get. I think it's something we'll figure out as we go along, and find our rhythm, whether we prefer going for long...

Re: Hello - Young(ish) couple sailing from the UK to the Med

Thanks Boatman!

Yep, planning on hopping along Biscay, and exploring some of the French islands in there, some of them look stunning, like the Iles de Glenan. Then we'll cut off the bottom...

Re: Hello - Young(ish) couple sailing from the UK to the Med

Hi Redhead,

Thanks very much! Yeah, they're great little boats. Not super speedy but amazingly spacious for the size, and really easy to sail.

That's not the HT Terrapin by any chance is...

Hello - Young(ish) couple sailing from the UK to the Med

Hi all!

Posted a couple of times, but thought I'd do a proper intro.

We're a pair of 30 year olds. We've got a Heavenly Twins 26, called Kittiwake, and are planning on sailing it from...

Re: Malta and Gozo Anchorages

David,

Thanks for the info, yes I've heard that the Blue Lagoon can get a bit bonkers in holiday season and the weekends, definitely not our first choice of anchorage in those times, but we'll...

Re: Malta and Gozo Anchorages

Thunderbird: Thanks for the info, is there anywhere to get further information on the free buoys you speak of? Are they official, or are they the locals' buoys when out of season? I've heard the...

Re: Malta and Gozo Anchorages

Thanks Yeloya.

I've done a bit of investigating and it seems that there is a lot of snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing, rock climbing, spearfishing and kayaking to be done, so plenty enough to...

Re: Malta and Gozo Anchorages

Not sure if you've already seen it Palarran, but this is the cruising guide I found. It's the best info I've got so far, but still not very detailed in terms of anchorage quality for overnight stays...

Malta and Gozo Anchorages

Morning all,

Hoping to borrow a bit of the CF collective wisdom, especially from those who have spent time sailing around Malta. We're hoping to visit on our boat later in the year, as it looks...

Re: UK Cruisers - Tax

In reply to inchcailloch and rodgoult

Yep, that's what It's looking like - to file a tax return you need to be registered as a sole trader I think(?), so that's what I'll do.

I'm not trying to...

Re: UK Cruisers - Tax

Cheers Boatman.

So do you mean you don't bother paying tax, or you don't bother filling in a tax return. Do you have a sole trader company set up? How do you deal with invoicing / payment for...

Conachair, thanks for the help, we'll look into doing it that way.

Gord, thanks hopefully I'll be able to be a net contributor of knowledge once we set off and gain some to contribute!

Hi All,
