Re: A Realization

Chotu, I agree with Knotical. I am aware of the difficult times you've been going through and perhaps it's time to just sell the boat and buy something smaller and ready to enjoy on the water today....

Re: Time It Takes To FULLY Charge Batteries

Well Akopac, I, for one, was extremely offended by your post....

Perhaps you could extend absorption time a little longer, but have a look at the manual for your controller and...

Re: Mast wiring

That jig is very clever! I ended up passing a length of old standing rigging through the PVC pipe to give it some weight and to keep it straight for drilling. The jig is a much more elegant solution.

Re: Mast wiring

It's a bit tricky, but with 2 people, it can be done with a bit of time and patience. I added a PVC pipe conduit to the inside of my mast for all mast wiring. I had the mast on horses (horizontal)...

Re: Lightweight, Medium Firm Mattress?

This is a cheap and excellent solution as you can choose the density of the foam (more or less firm) and the weight is very low.

If I may make a suggestion, if you add a gel memory foam topper to...

Re: Weber Q1200 Grill on a boat

Hi r.stokes. Well, I just replaced the burner for the first time a month ago, so I would say they last longer than Dickinson burners. I found third-party (Chinese) replacement burners for the Weber...

Re: Vindo 45 group?

I have a Vindo 50 (35 ft), but it's almost the same boat. Sails well and has no bad manners. It doesn't point too high, but otherwise sails very well on all other points of sail. It really depends on...

Re: Pump in vented loop needed for direct to sea pee

I keep a spray bottle with a vinegar and water solution beside the head. A spritz in the bowl keeps everything odorless.

To the OP: why not simply use the urine jugs as intended by the...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30(f)

After 10 months on a mooring, you can be certain there is growth in the raw water intake. Did you dive to check/clean the intake?

Re: Yanmar 3GM30(f)

Have you checked the through hull that provides raw water? If it has been sitting for 10 months, you probably have growth in the intake that you will only see when you dive to check the hull.

Re: Canadian COVID part-2

Encouraging, but still very high. I think we'll see some "normalcy" in the early summer.

Re: Is a Fridge Worth Installing?

[QUOTE=Pegu Club;3569888]We cruise on a Bristol 29.9, and have two firefly group 31 batteries fed by the 70 amp alternator on our Beta 16 diesel, and two one hundred watt semi flexible Renergy solar...

Re: Yanmar engine oil level - dipstick markings very far apart?! 2GM20F

I think the 2 markings represent the maximum and minimum oil levels.

Re: Is a Fridge Worth Installing?

Not sure I agree. Those portable Engel fridge/freezers are tough, reliable and use very little energy (about 30ah a day in most cases). They are expensive, but they should last for many years without...

Re: Shot Across The Bow

No experience with the Pearson models you mention, but I've always thought the 323 is a lot of (good old) boat for the money. They seem to sell for very fair prices.

Re: Is a Fridge Worth Installing?

With another 100w of solar, I think you can run a small Engel fridge without a problem. You have enough battery ah reserve. I have a 40-quart drop-in Engel in the tropics and it consumes about 30ah...

Re: Alternator belt for yanmar 3gm30f

I took my old Yanmar belt to an autoparts place and bought a bunch of spares for much less than the Yanmar ones (which are Mitsubishi I think). If I recall correctly, the replacement is an A-36 belt...

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Dan, thanks so much for posting this. It's a glimmer of hope at a time when so much of the world is politically divided (even over vaccines and science...). Perhaps we all just need to sit...

Re: Honest and knowledgeable opinions, keep current boat or change to older heavier?

I agree. Buying a new used boat for cruising, with all the potential (unknown) problems, seems more stressful than going with the boat you know and trust.

Re: Where do you dump?

It's actually ideal for weekend use. The contents dry out during the week and you can go months without dumping. There is no odor at all.

Re: Real Estate Stake While Cruising - Are you in or out?

Kevin, I think this is a very real concern. If you sell your house now, will you be able to buy another when you return? Perhaps you can sell your house and buy a few cheaper properties to rent while...

Re: I think I'm lost

That's also a great plan, going through the Pantanal and up through the Amazon. It's all a question of priorities- land or sea. Brazil is a big country, so give yourself plenty of time.
