Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe

Au contraire mon ami!

I say:Vive la différence!

I do genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, appreciate the efforts of yourself and the OP to keep the anchorages free of yourselves by staying...

Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe

Guilty as charged, I'm just a poor miserable fool whiling away my days in a hellish south pacific anchorage with no prospect of shore power, a Marina potluck dinner or even a Mc Donald's for at...

Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe

So true, if your boat spends the vast majority of it's time in a marina, very little tends to wear out and break....

Although obviously if you get rid of the boat altogether and go back to living...

Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe

Sorry but you really need to move with the times "boat repairs in exotic locations" is so Passé(Parday?).....

Cruising is all about surfing the net while in plugged into shore power for your AC...

Re: Panama-Polynesia what causes the alantic trade winds traspases panama Itsmo

Sorry, probably not exactly the awnser your looking for:

If you're talking about the Caribbean trades jumping the isthmus and giving you easterlies out into the Gulf of Panama, this seems to occur...

Re: Running a two stroke from a large static tank? How to deal with mix?

If you really insist on going the oil injection route Suzuki built a series of oil-injected two strokes in the late 80's. Might be cheaper/easier to find a couple of those 2nd hand than installing a...

Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe

Oh, we are still out here (currently French Polynesia in my case), but we consider ourselves "nomadic anchor-outs" since the Marina rats appropriated the term "cruisers"

Re: Problem to lower gaff boom

I do the same, if you let the peak get horizontal or below the throat it can jam.

I also wonder if you have too much friction in your peak halyard? On a 35ft cutter with a 350 Sq ft main, both my...

Re: Are cruisers able to transit the Panama Canal?

Cruising yachts for the most part are unaffected as normally up to 3 yachts are locked thru together with smaller comercial ships so no extra water is consumed.

Right now the world rally boats...

Re: Yamaha 9.9 4Stroke what prop on 5ton catamaran? Fixing spun prop?

Not very well, again that prop is for a standard gearbox (2x reduction), not the high thrust (3x réduction). You really need to make sure the diameter (11¾ inches) is correct

Re: Yamaha 9.9 4Stroke what prop on 5ton catamaran? Fixing spun prop?

That SVB prop is not designed for the high thrust motors.

I would either stick with the stock prop or drop down to the 11³/4 x 7 prop (this is what I run on a 35ft mono, gives 5 knots at 4000 rpm,...

Re: Marina suggestion in Lisbon Portugal

Second boaties recommendations.

If those are not in your budget there are also mooring balls at Seixel on the south side of the river, the association that runs them also provides a water taxi,...

Re: Albin Scampi 30 thoughts

Nice boats,
They sail well and have a lot of interior space for a boat of their era/size. quite a few of them (most?) have/had hydraulic drive with the engine under the bunk in the forepeak...

Re: 44ft monohull with outboarders only

Here's an example of a 44 footer designed for twin outboards:

https://parker-marine.com/product/exuma-44/

Note that it is a light, easily driven design compared to most 44 footers

If you...

Re: Inboard to Outboard?

James at Atom voyages has reacent video on a refit of a cape Dory 36 with a 9.8 tohatsu and a 6 kw epropulsion outboard. I think he was getting about 6 knots at full throttle with either motor.
I...

Re: Sailmaker in Panama ?

Not as far as I know, I think the small loft at Panamarina is probably your best/only option in that neck of the woods (otherwise it might be worth contacting Shelter bay Marina to see if they have...

Re: Yamaha 15F 2-stroke outboard hard to start

Thanks for the tips,

I will start by replacing the carb and see how that goes
I had read that these motors tend to run rich when the carb jet gets worn,
But I don't recall finding a replaceable...

Re: Yamaha 15F 2-stroke outboard hard to start

The F15 is indeed a 4 stroke, but the motor in question is a 15F (two stroke) sometimes known as the "leisure" model to differentiate it from the 15hp Enduro (e15d?)
Model number is 682, but parts...

Yamaha 15F 2-stroke outboard hard to start

I have an older, very worn Yamaha 15F that has always been hard to start when cold (when warm it normally starts first pull). Sometimes when it is cold it will start if I give it a hard enough pull,...

Another variation of the Chris White/Prout approach: https://www.hopyacht.co.za/

I wonder how much they lose compared to the Mast foil? I guess it must be a fair bit slower upwind.....

The "Panama Cruisers" Facebook group is maybe your best bet.

Otherwise there are a couple of Chandler's along the waterfront as you walk from the Fish market to Casco Vejio that have some 2nd hand...

There is a Facebook group "Panama Cruisers" where boats often post looking for linehandlers or people post looking for boats. I'd give that a go
