Re: Winterizing Yanmar 2GM20, drain plugs

OP, you asked about the engine, and most points have been covered (change oil, run propylene glycol through your raw water system).

You just need to customize the information to your boat. ...

Re: Volvo penta 2003 how much anti-freeze remains in engine

Thanks for the reply jamhass. We had a similar idea and that idea was to be our backup plan. For anyone who wants to know how much anti-freeze remains in a Volvo 2003B with freshwater cooling and a...

Volvo penta 2003 how much anti-freeze remains in engine

Hello,

We need to replace the antifreeze mix (AF) in our engine. To ensure we get the right coolant/distilled water AF mix (some of our winters are -25 F cold), I need to know how much old...

Re: common coolant leak points

Hello,

Thanks for all the replies. I just wanted to write a quick note to report final outcome on the thread.

On closer inspection, there appears to be some coolant residue under the...

Re: 45mm to 40mm exhaust hose adapter

Thanks Sailmonkey,

I assumed exhaust pressure only mattered with respect to getting the water out of the boat. I guess I'll be reading my Calder this week-end.

Thanks for the warning. ...

Nicholson58 and Jamhass,

Thanks for the ideas. I'll look at those areas when I'm next on boat.

Re: common coolant leak points

Thanks for reply. I was not the skipper. It is a sailing club boat and times like this make me wonder about our mission statement.

That was my guess as well. I'm confused why the cap...

common coolant leak points

Hello all,

Our engine (https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/tags/engine.html) was recently run for about an hour without raw water. I just about fixed the damaged exhaust system but today...

Re: 45mm to 40mm exhaust hose adapter

In case anyone else has this problem, I can confirm the Vetus waterlock lift muffler has interchangeable input fittings. We got a WLOCKL40R which has a molded 40mm outflow and we are using a 45mm...

Re: 45mm to 40mm exhaust hose adapter

Thanks for the reply.

I saw that one yesterday but I need something that connects a male 45mm to female 40mm. I think that is for connecting two hoses.

However, looking at it...

45mm to 40mm exhaust hose adapter

Hello,

Long story short, I have a vetus waterlift muffler with an output fitting of 45mm. My exhaust hose at this point is 40mm. Is there an adapter that I can buy/make?

Re: Tach/Wiring

No idea. I would suggest following that green wire to see to what the other end connects. But I imagine you already thought of that.

Re: Tach/Wiring

Hi, there are two types of temperature switches. #1 in the wiring diagram I posted feeds a gauge. #3 in the diagram just triggers a buzzer and light.

I have #1 and am enclosing a picture...

Hi,

I have a 2003 penta.

Your image #2 is a relay. I'm attaching a wiring diagram that shows how this relay connects to your wiring. On my engine, this relay does not directly connect to...

Re: Frenchman would cross Atlantic in barrel

Reading this reminded me of another Atlantic drift crossing. Steve Callahan did this in 1982 by accident in a rubber raft. His story made a wonderful inspiring book.

Re: Cruising Sailboats: a Dying Breed?

Hi,

I've often wondered about this topic. Especially at the beginning of a new season here in Chicago. Each spring, it seems we lose 5% of the moorings in Monroe Harbor Chicago. This year,...

Re: Just Re-watched "All Is Lost"

FYI, there is a strong case to be made that he died at the end. When I finished watching the movie, I said "Too bad he died". My gf said, "What do you mean, he was rescued."

So we googled it. ...

Re: Engine Oil Extraction

Hi,

Travellerw - What model engine do you have? I've looked for a car-type drain plug on our volvo 2003B but could never find one.

Thanks in advance.

Many years ago I learned using Mary Blewitt's book, a plastic sextant, and a beach. I'd been told her book was the classic but I found it very un-intuitive. It took me a long time to learn...

Re: How do I replace rear seal on transmission

I agree, leak is too strong, best call it seepage. Best guess, we are losing a teaspoon every hour of engine run-time.

Late August, we found oil in the bilge. We looked at transmission...
