Re: Caribbeans destination. First time Atlantic crossing

I’ve missed whether your boat is new or new to you.
If it’s new, then all I can say is “New boats, new problems” Expect numerous items to be fixed and to head straight off for a trans Atlantic...

Re: chain type

Get rid of the anchor. Too small and not a good brand. .
Get an oversized Sarca Excel or Rocna. You definitely will sleep better on the hook.
Also get an anchor watch app on your phone and put it...

REMORAN WAVE 3

I’m considering a hydro generator for an Atlantic cross.
Has anyone had any experience with the REMORAN WAVE 3 Hydro generators or can comment on its pluses or minuses. I realise the Watt & Seas are...

Re: Anchor Chains

Quite happy with MF chain so far after 3 years of mostly anchoring. I end for end the chain each year and fresh water wash it whenever we can. Cutting through a link last week showed little or no...

Re: RADAR

We’ve used a B&G Halo + over the past 3 years in the Med.
Others will give their opinion on various setups but I’ve found it well worth it.
I think the Doppler tracking system works well.
The...

Re: Rocna

I agree with others about the reviews from Panope..
I have an Excel which he reviews well, but all anchors have limitations and I think the process of setting your anchor is vitally important.
All...

Re: Anchoring sea in high wind

My steps of anchoring:
1. Look at anything that gives me an idea of what is below. Grass, rocks, seaweed, obstructions and sea floor slope. I use the charts, Navily & Google Earth to look at these....

Re: insufficient battery alternator charging for lithium battery

Hey from someone not too knowledgeable on these things. It’s a good thread and I’ve learnt quite a bit from all the inputs.

Re: Sock vs Top Down for Assymetric

We’ve had a furler for our asymmetric, but have always had difficulty with it on our short crewed 46’ mono.
When you include all the hardware, they are quite heavy and bulky to store. When furled...

Engine Oil Flushing

I have a Yanmar 4JH57 diesel with 1500 hours on it and about 4 years old. Yes quite a lot for its age.
Do people recommend doing an engine oil flush using a commercial product or with diesel added...

Re: Day Shapes while Anchoring

Although mostly the yachts are larger I would doubt that their mast height would be in the aircraft obstacle category or that they would be carrying anything particularly dangerous (except the...

Re: Day Shapes while Anchoring

Slightly off the original thread, but what are the legalities of having red mast head lights when at anchor. It seems that many larger yachts now have them instead of the standard 360 degree white...

It seems from the Covid crisis & Turkeys...

As someone previous mentioned STUGERON.
I’m not particularly prone to sea sickness but have taken it several times on long swelly sectors. It’s worked for me without tiredness.
On one of these...

Ok, I understand your comment now.
I will definitely keep it either straight up vertical or tilted to the preferred side.
Also while I’ve always turned the fuel cap. Rest get off I haven’t been...

Re: Yanmar 3gm30f rpm recomendations

I’m not sure the best way of confirming the correct rpm but I’m sure others or google will give you advice.
It was just that I found that our tachometer was under reading substantially & that our...

I might not have given enough info.

Re: Looking for one more perspective on electric vs. conventional motor for dinghy

I have both. An E-Propulsion EVO 1.0 Spirit and a Honda 2.3.
When the EVO is going, it is quite convenient. I’ve had cable problems and I still think I have a random BMS problem in the battery....

Re: Yanmar 3gm30f rpm recomendations

Check your rpm against another tachometer. I thought I had a problem with an older Yanmar, but found out my tachometer was under reading by several hundred rpm. It’s a good first step to try.
